Tang, Greater Manchester: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF is done at the motor, not at a garage. Your car is not taken away and the filter will not leave it. A fitter turns up at your door in Tang, treats the diesel particulate filter fitted to the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the car is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What then?
It might not be the DPF whatsoever. That is the first thing. A scan goes before all work, because that same panel light has a number of possible faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, motor still driving as normal — a long constant run can still sort it on its own. Costs zero, and worth trying before you call anything.
- That window has shut once the motor has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it checked.
Signs the vehicle has been sending you
Symptoms have generally been growing for a while before the light so much as appears. Last news, in other words:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they once did
- fuel use turning worse
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
On its own, none of that is evidence. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
Choked diesel particulate filters round Tang, and the why
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the kind you get around a residential suburb such as Tang. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to St Christopher's Catholic Primary School, a Voluntary Academy, not on St. Davids Avenue at half past eight, not on five minutes to Aldi, and not on the dash to Romiley. Soot that should burn off banks up instead.
The M60 lies under 3 miles from Tang, Manchester under 10 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, full weeks pass without the sustained run that empties a filter. Geography does not oblige.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run
Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. Past that point — limp mode — more driving will not be enough, and the filter wants a clean.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the car stands round Tang
On your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a few hours: the job happens with the filter still fitted on, which is the part most owners do not see coming.
The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
A solution after that is injected through the entry point on that vehicle, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Where the filter is severely blocked, expect a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Tang; if not, in place where the motor stands, with the live data checked after.
Then a second check, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both reports are sent over, so the before and after figures are kept.
The faults a DPF clean cannot fix
Only one fault is answered by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system failure
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing in the first place
- turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. When it is found to be one of those, you are told before any work gets going rather than after you have paid a penny.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning costs around Tang
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.
Once we have what you own, and broadly what the filter will want, the number gets agreed over phone. A single price for everyone would not be truthful. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Tang itself, across at Hatherlow, or otherwise out within the SK postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for treatment that the scan says will not do it. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was run and the advice was passed on.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Tang — the work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Turned up early, was very respectful, helpful, quick and thorough. He explained everything to me, gave me clear instructions on what to do next and advised on car care after the fix. My car is now running like it's brand new!
Brilliant! Spoke to someone on the phone and they had availability next day to get me booked in! The issue was solved in a timely manner and I got sent a report detailing everything. Great company! Would defo recommend!
Brilliant service - so helpful and efficient. The mechanic who came Zoltan was so helpful, explained everything, so polite and really could not have done a more professional job! Cannot recommend this company enough!
What we clean, and how far we go around Tang
Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated in place rather than taken anywhere.
Week in week out there is usually someone on St. Davids Avenue, so Tang seldom means a journey of its own, and Hatherlow, Top-o-th Hill and the places past Romiley come with it. Ring anyway from even further out across Greater Manchester. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are offered comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Things Tang drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- If you spot it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes flat to Aldi and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
- What does it cost around Tang?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- The car requires a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would rather ride along.
- Travelling to Tang — how soon?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the SK area.
- Is the filter taken off the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it is. We never get filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Tang.
