Mobile DPF Cleaning across Sutcombe, Devon
Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the car. Your motor will not be taken off and the filter will not leave it. An engineer arrives at your place across Sutcombe, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.
Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone travels.
If the light is showing and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners get to us.
What to do when the DPF light shows
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. That light can follow plenty of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a check and not with treatment.
It matters what you manage with the vehicle between now and the appointment.
- Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, car driving normally, just one constant run, no charge.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it checked.
The vehicle has been telling you already
Symptoms have generally been building for some time before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- climbing uphill, the power falls off
- you find the revs stop short of where they always went
- fuel use turning worse
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
That is not proof by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
What clogs diesel particulate filters around Sutcombe
Sutcombe is a village, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Bradworthy Primary Academy, Church View crawling at half past eight, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to the nearest station. What should burn off remains.
Unless you have a routine need to get out to the M5, under 50 miles from Sutcombe, or over to Plymouth under 50 miles away, weeks pass without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. With power held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter requires cannot happen at all. That matters, because triggering one is just what a sustained run does.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works up to a line. Beyond that line — limp mode — driving will not manage it, and the filter wants cleaning.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done in Sutcombe
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can stand for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter yet bolted on, which is the part most owners do not expect.
First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it read before any of it is cleaned.
A solution next is fed in through the access point on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. Stay with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Sutcombe. Leave it and the regeneration goes in place, with real-time data checked once it is done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still showing written down. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.
Where a clean is not the answer
Treatment cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a blockage that is not real
- EGR valves that jam open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever completes
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before any work begins, not after you have paid, where it turns out to be one of those.
A couple more worth knowing. Leaving the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is treated in place and returned into use.
The figure of DPF cleaning around Sutcombe
A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. Treatment itself opens from £299.
The price is agreed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you run and where you are both move it: Sutcombe itself, over at Sutcombemill, or otherwise out across the EX postcode area.
If the scan rules treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the scan and passed on you the advice.
The clean carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Sutcombe if the light comes back inside that time.
Daz was fantastic. Sussed out the problem with my cars engine. Was professional and genuine, my car didn't have a blocked DPD so no clean needed. Excellent service.
Atilla went out of his way to diagnose and fix my recurring Dpf issues. Explained everything at fault and remedies, as well as having a chat despite it being late. What a nice guy he was, more than happy with the service DPF Fixers provide.
Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.
Where we travel round Sutcombe, and what we clean
A single on-site service spans cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Most weeks there is already someone on Church View, so Sutcombe rarely means a detour, and Sutcombemill, Bradworthy and the spots past Holsworthy Beacon are on the way. Phone anyway from further out across Devon. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the date you are offered hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

What Sutcombe drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not fifteen minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
- Does the visit run long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
- Cost around Sutcombe — what is it?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both move the number.
- Have I have to be around?
- The motor requires a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Choosing to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Sutcombe?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the EX area has free.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- It is treated where it stands, on the on-site service. Nor does lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Sutcombe.
