Late news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for a while before it appears:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
By itself, none of that is proof. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Sunningdale
