Late news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for weeks before it arrives:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- the fuel economy is worse
- stop/start without a word bowing out

Alone, none of that is conclusive. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
