Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for a while before it shows:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they always went
- fuel use going worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
That is not proof by itself. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.

For a DPF, the worst motoring is the sort you find across a rural hamlet such as Stronaba.
