Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Stroat, Gloucestershire

With call-out DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. No garage, no filter coming off. A fitter comes to your door over in Stroat, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

You'll be given a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

If the light is showing and the vehicle is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners arrive here.

The DPF light is on. What now?

It may not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. That light can follow plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with a clean.

How the car is run in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Amber light, motor still driving as normal — a long constant run can even now sort it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you book anything.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it looked at if the cabin reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

What the car has been showing you

The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been mounting for a while:

  • less power, particularly climbing uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they used to
  • worse fuel consumption
  • silently, the stop/start packs in
  • the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

That is not evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Stroat, and the cause

The driving that goes with a rural hamlet like Stroat is the poorest sort for a DPF. The school run to Woolaston Primary School, A48 at a halt at half eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the run to Chepstow — not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Soot that should clear collects instead.

The M48 lies under 5 miles from Stroat, Bristol under 25 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that clears a filter. Geography does not oblige.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. The real catch is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is held down.

So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, up until the day it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than more driving once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode.

The blocked filter cleaned after a warning light in Stroat, Gloucestershire

The motor stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning in Stroat

The filter does not leave it. That is the detail most people do not see coming: the job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a few hours.

First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it read before a thing is started.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed after that, by a cleaning fluid passed through the entry point on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.

Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Stroat, with you there, or it is done where the car waits and the real-time data is read afterwards.

A second check verifies the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are sent over, so you have the before and after figures on record.

Where cleaning is not the answer

Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
  • an EGR valve held open
  • the AdBlue system going wrong
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. Where it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up a penny.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is treated in place and goes back into service.

Figures for DPF cleaning around Stroat

The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.

The figure is fixed by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Two separate things change it: what you drive, and where you are — Stroat itself, across at Boughspring, or farther out in the NP postcode area.

Treatment that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. The call-out charge nonetheless holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place.

A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Stroat if the light comes back inside the period.

What we clean, and how far we reach near Stroat

Whatever it is — estate, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one call-out service applies, and the filter never departs it.

The same run that keeps technicians on A48 most weeks picks up Stroat, Boughspring, Park Hill and the spots beyond Woolaston. Phone anyway from even further out through Gloucestershire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the day you are offered comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Stroat drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough alone?
If you catch it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Tesco and back.
Does the visit last long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
Cost around Stroat — what is it?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
Is it essential for me to be there?
No. The motor needs a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
How soon can someone get to Stroat?
That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is available across the NP area.
Will the filter be removed?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
And if the light reappears?
Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Stroat.
