The vehicle has been showing you already
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for some time. It is belated news:
- going uphill, the power drops away
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- fuel consumption going worse
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
By itself, none of that is conclusive. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Strathtongue
For a DPF, the poorest use is the kind you find in a rural hamlet such as Strathtongue. Two more worth knowing. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
