What the car has been warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms usually build for a while before it appears:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- an engine whose revs will not climb as they should
- the fuel use is worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not proof by itself. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
