Stoneheads, Derbyshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Mobile DPF cleaning travels to the motor. No workshop, no filter coming off. A technician drives out to your place in Stoneheads, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone travels.
The light is showing and the car is short of power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page covers.
The DPF light is on. What next?
Not the filter, automatically. First thing to note. Several faults put the very same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit opens with a check rather than with a clean.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- A long constant run may even now manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives as normal. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before ringing.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the motor was warning you
Symptoms have normally been building for some time before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
That is not conclusive on its own. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
The reason diesel particulate filters block around Stoneheads
For a DPF, the worst driving is the sort you meet across a residential suburb such as Stoneheads. Look at a typical week: Whaley Bridge Primary School and back, Meadowfield at a halt before half nine, a quick trip to The Co-operative Food, a dash to Whaley Bridge. Not much there runs long enough or runs hot enough to finish a regeneration. The soot banks up rather than clearing.
The M60 stands under 10 miles from Stoneheads, Manchester under 15 miles off, and unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks go by without the long unbroken run that scours a filter. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter requires can not happen — which is the whole problem, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds as far as a line. Beyond that point — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter wants a clean.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Stoneheads
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most people do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF still fitted to the motor, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.
A diagnostic goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are ruled out before anything is cleaned.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own entry point, opening out inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is badly loaded, allow for a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Stoneheads. Leave it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with real-time data read once it is done.
A second check confirms the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still open. Both reports are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- temperature or pressure sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- AdBlue system problems
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running at all
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's whole job. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before work begins, not after handing over a penny.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
The cost of DPF cleaning around Stoneheads
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it over phone, once the car and its likely needs are established. What you run and where you are both shift it: Stoneheads itself, over at Whaley Bridge, or otherwise out across the SK postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was run and the advice was offered.
If the light reappears inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Stoneheads — the clean carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

What we clean, and how far we reach round Stoneheads
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Stoneheads is seldom a special trip: our engineers are along Meadowfield most weeks, and the same run picks up Whaley Bridge, New Horwich and the villages out past Bridgemont. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so ring anyway from even further out across Derbyshire.

Questions Stoneheads drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to The Co-operative Food and back.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- What does it run to around Stoneheads?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- A spot for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would prefer to come along.
- Can someone get to Stoneheads soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the SK area.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- Not on the call-out service — it is done where it stands. We will not lift filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Stoneheads.
