Stonehaugh, Northumberland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. The technician arrives at your address over in Stonehaugh and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
Nobody travels until the number is settled by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Written for the state most callers are in: the light showing, the vehicle short for power, and the clean still to book.
The DPF light is on. What then?
The filter is not necessarily what is at fault, and that leads. A number of faults put the identical light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with treatment.
The driving you manage in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, car yet driving as normal — a long steady run can still clear it alone. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- That window has shut once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not help now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it looked at.
Signs the vehicle has been sending you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been going wrong for some time. It is belated news:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- fuel consumption turning worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Stonehaugh
Stonehaugh is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that comes with one is the least kind type for a DPF. Not one bit of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Wark Church of England Primary School, Ward Lane barely moving at half eight, five minutes to The Co-operative Food, the dash to Bardon Mill. Soot that should burn away collects instead.
Neither is a long way from Stonehaugh: under 50 miles to the M6, under 50 miles to Carlisle. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter simply never comes.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. With output limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter needs cannot happen at all. That tells, because starting one is just what a sustained run does.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, until it stops being. The filter wants a clean rather than more driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the car stands in Stonehaugh
On your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a couple of hours: the job takes place with the filter still fitted on, which is the bit most drivers do not expect.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
Then the cleaning. A solution is injected through the access point on that vehicle and spreads inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Where the filter is severely clogged, expect a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Stonehaugh, with you along, or it goes where the car waits and the live data is checked afterwards.
A second diagnostic verifies the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still outstanding. Both reports are sent over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not help:
- a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
The first scan is there for precisely that. If one of those is the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into use.
The price of DPF cleaning around Stonehaugh
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
No flat rate would be straight, so the figure is agreed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you run and where you are both change it: Stonehaugh itself, across at Wark, or further out within the NE postcode area.
If the check counts a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the scan and gave you the advice.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Stonehaugh — the clean comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
I was very worried about DPF issues with my Audi A4 and Nic from DPF fixer did a great job. In around an hour he did a test, flush and regen. He was very professional and helpful. Worth the money, I hope, if the issue doesn't come back.
10/10 experience. I called, got someone out the next day. Nat came and was friendly, efficient and did a great job!
Great work from Daz cleaning the DPF and all round great advice and information. And all done at home with their door to door service.
What we clean, and how far we travel around Stonehaugh
The filter is done in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Stonehaugh is rarely a special trip: our engineers are out on Ward Lane nearly every week, and the same run picks up Wark, Simonburn and the villages out past Bellingham. Farther out across Northumberland is even so worth a call — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Things Stonehaugh drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- If you get it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes to The Co-operative Food and back.
- Broadly how long does it last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
- What does it cost in Stonehaugh?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the check and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- The vehicle requires a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- How soon can someone come to Stonehaugh?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the NE area has open.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- It is cleaned where it is, on the on-site service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Stonehaugh.
