Mobile DPF Cleaner

Stonebridge, Somerset: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a garage. A fitter turns up at your place over in Stonebridge, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is fixed by the phone before anyone travels.

The light is showing and the motor is low on power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page is about.

DPF light on? What happens next

First thing: it is not always the filter. That light can follow a number of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a check and not with a clean.

It tells what you do with the car between now and the visit.

  • Motor still driving as normal on an amber light — try a long steady run first. It costs nothing and often sorts the filter without a visit.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
  • Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

Signs the motor has been sending you

The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been mounting for weeks:

  • power tailing off, particularly climbing uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they always did
  • the fuel use is poorer
  • stop/start quietly giving up
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle

By itself, none of that is proof. The light beside them points at a blocked filter.

Why diesel particulate filters block around Stonebridge

Stonebridge is a residential suburb, and the driving that goes with one is the worst sort for a DPF. A regeneration takes time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Hayesdown First School, not on Beaconsfield Way at half eight, not on ten minutes to Lidl, and not on the run to Frome. The soot load collects rather than burning off.

Neither is a long way from Stonebridge: under 25 miles to the M4, under 15 miles to Bath. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter hardly ever happens.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. With output limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires cannot happen at all. That matters, because setting off one is just what a long run does.

Getting it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it stands as far as a line. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter wants cleaning rather than driving.

A blocked DPF treated in Stonebridge, Somerset

Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated round Stonebridge

Most drivers do not expect this bit: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF still bolted to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a few hours.

First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it taken before a thing is cleaned.

A solution next goes in through the access port on that car, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Where the filter is heavily clogged, expect a second pass.

A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Stonebridge; if not, statically where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data read after.

Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what proves the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still open.

What a DPF clean will not cure

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • sensors, pressure, reporting a block that is not real
  • an EGR valve held open
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration completing at all
  • the turbo pushing oil into the filter

Which is why the check goes first. When it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.

DPF cleaning prices across Stonebridge

The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.

Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the number is agreed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two things change it: what you run, and where you are — Stonebridge itself, out at Oldford, or farther out in the BA postcode area.

If the scan rules cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge still applies.

If the light returns inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Stonebridge — the job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover around Stonebridge

The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.

Most weeks there is by then someone on Beaconsfield Way, so Stonebridge rarely means a special trip, and Oldford, Innox Hill and the spots past Frome are on the way. Further out through Somerset is even so worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Stonebridge

Is a long drive enough by itself?
Quickly enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a short trip to Lidl.
Does the visit last long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
What does it cost in Stonebridge?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we settle it on the phone.
Have I got to be there?
Space for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Ride along if you like, and the regeneration is done as a watched drive.
How soon can someone come to Stonebridge?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the BA area.
Is the filter removed from the motor?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We will not lift filters off or put them back on, either way.
And if the light comes back?
The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Stonebridge.
