Mobile DPF Cleaning around Stone and Buckinghamshire
The car remains put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. No workshop, no filter coming off. A fitter comes to your address across Stone, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the vehicle short of power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
DPF light on? What to do
Not the DPF, necessarily. Main thing to note. Plenty of faults put the same light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with treatment.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, car still driving normally — a long constant run can still sort it alone. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you book anything.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.
The motor has been telling you already
Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for a while before it arrives:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
None of that is evidence on its own. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is on as well.
What blocks diesel particulate filters around Stone
Stone is a rural village, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. Run through an ordinary week: Stone Church of England Combined School and back, Chiltern Avenue at a halt before the hour, a quick trip to Tesco Extra, a dash to Aylesbury. Nothing there runs long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning off.
Geography does not assist either. The M40 is under 10 miles from Stone and Milton Keynes is under 25 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, weeks slip past without the sustained run that might scour the filter on its own.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
What limp mode amounts to is the car defending itself. A sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.
The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not. Beyond that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter needs cleaning.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done round Stone
On your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a while: the job takes place with the filter even now fixed on, which is the detail most owners do not expect.
A diagnostic comes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are cleared before anything is cleaned.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are lifted second, by a cleaning solution put through the access port on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is heavily loaded, allow for a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Stone, with you there, or it is done where the car stands and the live data is checked afterwards.
A second diagnostic proves the change, puts out the warning light and notes anything still showing. Both read-outs are sent over, so you have the before and after figures to hand.
What a DPF clean will not touch
One thing is what treatment answers — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration starting at all
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the check comes first. You are let know before all work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.
Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is swapped — your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning runs to in Stone
A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we know what you run, and roughly what the filter will need, the figure gets agreed by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. A pair of things move it: what you own, and where you are — Stone itself, out at Sedrup, or further out within the HP postcode area.
If the scan rules cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, did the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Stone — the job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
I can sing nothing but praise for DPF fixer from first initial contacted on Tuesday speaking to Christine organising the appointment to Liam coming out today to sort my daughters car out. The service these gentlemen provided is excellent, definitely recommend.
The DPF Fixer technician was prompt, thorough and professional, and most importantly, 3 days later my car passed its MOT (having previously failed on emissions) - we could not be happier!
Had a clean. Didn't fix problem. Came back out. Still didn't fix the problem. Wast of time and £400.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we take in near Stone
Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the same call-out service holds, and the filter never quits it.
Engineers are along Chiltern Avenue nearly every week, so Stone is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Sedrup, Upton and the spots out past Bishopstone. Even further out through Buckinghamshire is still worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Things Stone drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you spot it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not five minutes or so to Tesco Extra and back.
- Broadly how long does it last?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
- Around Stone, what does it cost?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The vehicle needs somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- Coming to Stone — how soon?
- That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is open across the HP area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- Cleaned where it sits, on this service, so no. Nor does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Stone.
