Mobile DPF Cleaner

Stoer, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Treating the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a garage. The engineer turns up at your door across Stoer and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the number is agreed over the phone before anyone sets off.

If the light is already on and the vehicle is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners end up here.

What to try when the DPF light shows

It might not be the DPF whatsoever. That is the opening thing. A check comes before any cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.

How the car is driven in the meantime counts too.

  • Car still driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently shifts the filter without help.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and ring.

Before the light, what the car was warning you

The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:

  • tailing off on power, above all uphill
  • you see the revs never reach where they once went
  • fuel economy getting worse
  • the stop/start without a word giving up
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

None of that is conclusive by itself. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

Why diesel particulate filters choke around Stoer

For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you find around a rural hamlet such as Stoer. Nothing of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Stoer Cemetery Road barely moving at the morning rush, a few minutes to Lochinver Stores, the run to the nearest station. What should burn off remains.

Neither is a long way from Stoer: over 50 miles to the M90, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter simply never happens.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode kills it

Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. With power held down and the revs held, the regeneration the filter wants can never run at all. That matters, because setting off one is exactly what a sustained run does.

So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it stops being. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that stage, and the filter needs a clean rather than road work.

DPF cleaning at the car round Stoer

On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can stand for a while: the job happens with the filter still fitted on, which is the part most people do not anticipate.

First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it logged before anything is started.

A solution after that goes in through the access point on that vehicle, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Where the filter is severely clogged, expect a second pass.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Stoer if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the real-time data verified once done.

Then a second diagnostic, proving the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both read-outs are sent over, so the before and after figures are kept.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

Only one fault is answered by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a block that is not real
  • an EGR valve held open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
  • turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter

Which is why the diagnostic happens first. You are told before any work starts, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.

DPF cleaning prices across Stoer

A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself opens from £299.

Once we know what you run, and about what the filter will want, the price gets agreed by phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. What you own and where you are both change it: Stoer itself, across at Clachtoll, or otherwise out across the IV postcode area.

You are not charged for treatment that the check says will not work. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was carried out and the advice was passed on.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to Stoer.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Stoer

The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

Engineers are along Stoer Cemetery Road week in week out, so Stoer is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Clachtoll, Clashnessie and the places out past Lochinver. Farther out across Highland is still worth ringing about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Questions Stoer drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
If you get it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Lochinver Stores and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
Does the visit last long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
In Stoer, what does it cost?
Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we quote on the phone.
Do I have to be around?
The car wants a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Come along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
Can someone travel to Stoer soon?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the IV area.
Does the filter come away from the car?
Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it stands. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything something we do in either direction.
And if the light comes back?
Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Stoer.
