Stidcot, Gloucestershire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF is done at the car, not at a body shop. No garage, no filter leaving. A technician travels to your place over in Stidcot, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most people get to us.
DPF light on? What to do
The unit is not automatically what is at fault, and that comes first. That light can come from a number of faults, not just one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with treatment.
How the vehicle is driven in the meantime matters too.
- Amber light, motor yet driving fine — a long even run can even now clear it on its own. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
Signs the car has been giving you
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- tailing off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- fuel economy going worse
- the stop/start quietly giving up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Stidcot
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the type you find around a rural hamlet such as Stidcot. The school run to St Andrew's Church of England Primary School, Cromhall, Stidcot Lane at a crawl at the morning rush, ten minutes to Tesco, the hop to Yate — nothing of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot load builds up rather than burning off.
Neither is distant from Stidcot: under a mile to the M5, under 15 miles to Bristol. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter never gets made.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. Power is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer happen — which is the entire catch, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: cleaning is what will work, not more road work.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands in Stidcot
Most people do not anticipate this detail: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That means a scan first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts.
A cleaning fluid after that goes in through the entry point on that car, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Where the filter is severely loaded, plan on a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Come with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Stidcot. Park it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.
Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a block that is not real
- EGR valves that stick open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are told before all work begins, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning across Stidcot
Each visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, setting up the booking, running the scan and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Not one flat rate would be straight, so the price is settled over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The motor changes it, and so does the postcode — Stidcot, Bagstone, or somewhere further out in the GL postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the check is what says so. What even so stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was carried out and the advice was offered.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Stidcot.
Jim who came out to me on site, nice guy pleasure to deal with very helpful. checked out my truck reset the computer and away we went no dash lights currently.
Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.
The technician was very informative and kept me updated with what was happening with my car, a good job done.
Where we get to around Stidcot, and what we clean
Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one mobile service holds, and the filter never leaves it.
The same run that has technicians on Stidcot Lane most weeks takes in Stidcot, Bagstone, Abbotside and the spots beyond Heath End. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone still from farther out through Gloucestershire.

Things Stidcot drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- It may, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not begun. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes or so to Tesco and back.
- Roughly how long does it last?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
- What does it cost around Stidcot?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the check and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Have I got to be there?
- Somewhere for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
- Coming to Stidcot — how soon?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is available across the GL area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light returns?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Stidcot.
