Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Stella, Tyne and Wear

Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a body shop. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. An engineer travels to your door in Stella, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the price is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

The light is on already and the motor is down on power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page deals with.

What to try when the DPF light is on

The DPF is not automatically what is at fault, and that comes first. A scan happens before the cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.

It counts what you manage with the vehicle between now and the visit.

  • Amber light, vehicle still driving fine — a long constant run can yet sort it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
  • That window has shut once the car has fallen into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
  • Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you

Symptoms have generally been mounting for weeks before the light ever shows. Last news, in other words:

  • less power, above all pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
  • consumption that is worse than before
  • stop/start without a word packing in
  • the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is there too.

Clogged diesel particulate filters round Stella, and the why

The motoring that belongs to a residential suburb like Stella is the least kind sort for a DPF. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to St Mary & St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School, Blaydon, not on King Oswald Drive at half past eight, not on ten minutes to Asda, and not on the dash to Blaydon. The soot load banks up rather than clearing.

Save when you have a standing need to drive out to the Central Motorway East, under 5 miles from Stella, or across to Newcastle upon Tyne under 5 miles away, weeks slip past without a long unbroken run. Geography is against you.

Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

What limp mode means is the car looking after itself. With power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires will not happen at all. That tells, because setting off one is just what a motorway run does.

So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it stops being. Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter needs treatment rather than road work.

The clogged filter cleaned after a warning light across Stella, Tyne and Wear

Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated across Stella

The filter does not budge. That is the part most drivers do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF even now fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can wait for a couple of hours.

A check goes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts, so other faults are eliminated before anything is touched.

Then the cleaning. A solution goes in through the access point on that car and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily blocked filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Stay with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Stella. Drop it and the regeneration runs on the spot, with real-time data verified once it is done.

Then a second scan, verifying the change, clearing the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both reports are sent over, so the before and after figures are kept.

Where a clean is not the solution

Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • pressure sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • a stuck-open EGR valve
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before any work gets going, not after paying anything.

Gutting the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

The cost of DPF cleaning around Stella

Cleaning begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We agree it on the phone, once the motor and its probable needs are clear. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the postcode — Stella, Hedgefield, or somewhere farther out in the NE postcode area.

If the scan writes a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the check and gave you the advice.

If the light returns inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Stella — the work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

A vehicle having its DPF cleaned in Stella

Attila was very professional knew what he was dealing with fixed the problem, fingers crossed the problem won't return as it has every time the garage has fixed it.

Fiona G.

Dave was really helpful, cleaned my DPF and fixed the fault codes. He also identified another issue with my van. Would highly recommend using this company.

Thomas R.

The technician who came to clean the dpf did a great job, the clean didn't cure the problem but did put me in the right direction with the issue. Would recommend but hopefully won't need them again. Vehicle was a MAN tgl 8/150.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover around Stella

The one mobile service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.

The same trip that has engineers on King Oswald Drive most weeks covers Stella, Hedgefield, Crookhill and the spots beyond Newburn. Ring anyway from farther out around Tyne and Wear. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are given hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Stella drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
Sometimes, if you get it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not five minutes to Asda and back.
The visit lasts how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
What does it cost in Stella?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the number.
Do I have to be there?
The car wants a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would prefer to come along.
How soon can someone get to Stella?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the NE area.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
It is treated where it stands, on the call-out service. Getting a filter off or putting one back on amount to anything work we do whichever way.
The light comes back — then what?
Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Stella.
