It may not be the DPF whatsoever. That is the main thing. That light can follow a number of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a diagnostic and not with treatment.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, motor even now driving fine — a long even run can still clear it on its own. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- That window has gone once the motor has dropped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and book it in.
Signs the motor has been giving you
Symptoms have usually been mounting for a while before the light so much as shows. Last news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- worse fuel use
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
That is not evidence on its own. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
The cause diesel particulate filters clog near Steeple
