What the car has been showing you
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for weeks before it appears:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- worse fuel consumption
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not proof by itself. It is a fair bet the filter is full once the light is showing too.

Being a rural hamlet, Stanley produces precisely the motoring a DPF copes with worst.
