Staiside Court, Midlothian: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The car sits in place — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. No garage, no filter going anywhere. A fitter comes to your place over in Staiside Court, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is showing and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally meet people, and what this page is about.
DPF light on? What comes next
Not the unit, always. Main thing to say. A clean is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults register as the same light.
How the motor is run in the meantime counts too.
- A long steady run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor runs as normal. Costs nothing at all, so try that before booking.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the vehicle was showing you
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for some time before it arrives:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- the fuel consumption is worse
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration
None of that is conclusive on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round Staiside Court
For a DPF, the worst driving is the kind you get across a small village such as Staiside Court. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Polton Street at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the dash to Newtongrange. Instead of burning away, the soot load builds up.
Neither is a long way from Staiside Court: under 10 miles to the M8, under 10 miles to Edinburgh. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter never gets made.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. The real difficulty is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is limited.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: treatment is what will help, not more road work.
On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Staiside Court
Nothing is taken from the motor. That surprises people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a couple of hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That means a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts.
Then the treatment. A solution goes in through the access point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly clogged filters.
A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has loosened. Come with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Staiside Court. Park it and the regeneration runs in place, with live data verified once it is done.
Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still showing.
The problems a DPF clean cannot fix
One thing is what treatment cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a block that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Which is why the scan goes first. You are let know before any work gets going, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleaned in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning charges in Staiside Court
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we are told what you drive, and broadly what the filter will want, the number gets agreed over phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. The place you are counts as much as what you drive: Staiside Court itself, Waverley close by, or farther out within the EH postcode area.
You are not billed for cleaning that the scan says will not do it. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Staiside Court.
Huge thank you to Carolina and Andras for an exceptionally efficient and prompt service. 4 hours from the time I placed my initial call to the DPF being cleaned. We'll definitely be using you again.
The whole operation was carried out by their operator Nic in an efficient and professional manner. He talked me through the whole process in layman's terms with a full report on completion. The test run showed that the car was, indeed, back to normal. Would definitely recommend.
Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning across Staiside Court
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
- How much does it run to around Staiside Court?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself starts from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The car needs a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- Can someone travel to Staiside Court soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the EH area.
- The filter — does it come off the motor?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it sits. Getting a filter off or putting one back on count as anything work we do in either direction.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Staiside Court — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
