St Veep, Cornwall: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Sorting the DPF is done at the motor, not at a body shop. Your vehicle isn't taken anywhere and the filter does not come off. A technician comes at your door over in St Veep, cleans the diesel particulate filter on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.

You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

The light is already on and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we generally meet people, and precisely what this page covers.

Your DPF light is lit — what next?

First thing: it is not automatically the unit. A check goes before all work, because that same panel light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.

The driving you get in the meantime counts. That is the next thing.

  • A long constant run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the motor drives as normal. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before calling.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
  • Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.

Signs the car has been sending you

By the time the light arrives, things have usually been deteriorating for some time. It is late news:

  • climbing uphill, the power tails off
  • revs that will not pull the way they always did
  • worse fuel consumption
  • the stop/start quietly packing in
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration

None of that is evidence by itself. The light beside them indicates a blocked filter.

Clogged diesel particulate filters near St Veep, and the why

Being a rural hamlet, St Veep throws up precisely the driving a DPF manages least well. Look at a typical week: Lerryn CofE Primary School and home, Water Lane at a standstill before half nine, a short hop to Co-op Food, a run to Lostwithiel. None of it there runs long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Soot that should clear banks up instead.

Where you sit does not oblige either. The M5 is over 50 miles from St Veep and Truro is under 25 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that could clear the filter alone.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode kills it

Limp mode is the motor defending itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode blocks: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration on offer.

Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands right up to a line. Once the car is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter requires cleaning rather than road work.

A clogged DPF treated in St Veep, Cornwall

On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands across St Veep

On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can stand for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter still bolted on, which is the part most drivers do not expect.

First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the related components — all of it logged before a thing is touched.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed after that, by a cleaning solution put through the access port on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.

A regeneration is next, clearing what the clean has lifted. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of St Veep. Drop it and the regeneration runs on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.

A second scan confirms the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.

The problems a DPF clean cannot answer

Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
  • an EGR valve jammed open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. Where it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work begins rather than after you have settled up for it.

Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is replaced — your existing filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

The price of DPF cleaning around St Veep

A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself opens from £299.

Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it by phone, once the motor and its likely needs are clear. The motor shifts it, and so does the address — St Veep, Penpoll, or a spot farther out in the PL postcode area.

If the diagnostic writes a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. What even so stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was done and the advice was offered.

If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer heads back out to St Veep — the work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

I waited a month just to see, but now I'm so happy with their work, Wonderful company, easy booking, they really do their work impeccably and are reasonably flexible. They did work on my civic, ash values went from 66grams to 0.

Albert M.

Just want to say I spoke to Jason and he was a legend in helping us today. Very helpful and on point with his customer service. Highly recommend for future problems. Tony and Tara.

Anthony M.

Polite prompt service and explained everything at each stage and other issues that cropped up during the clean out. Running very well and am very pleased with the service.

Where we travel near St Veep, and what we clean

Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the same call-out service holds, and the filter never quits it.

Our engineers are along Water Lane most weeks, so St Veep is seldom a detour, and the same run takes in Penpoll, Manely and the villages out past Golant. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call still from further out across Cornwall.

St Veep is located approximately 20 miles from the city of Truro, and around 211 miles from London.

Questions St Veep drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?
Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the car has not slipped into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a sustained spell, rather than a brief trip to Co-op Food.
How long does the visit take?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
What does it cost around St Veep?
Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we quote on the phone.
Do I have to be present?
Space for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
When can someone travel to St Veep?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the PL area.
Does the filter come off the vehicle?
Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. Nor does taking a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
And if the light reappears?
An engineer travels back out to St Veep — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
