Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for a while before it appears:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- fuel economy going worse
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not proof alone. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
The explanation diesel particulate filters clog near St Martins
For a DPF, the worst driving is the sort you meet across a residential suburb such as St Martins.
