Mobile DPF Cleaning for St James, Kent
On-site DPF cleaning comes to the motor. Your car isn't taken away and the filter will not budge. An engineer arrives at your address over in St James, clears the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and performs a DPF regeneration.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Most owners find us with the light on already, and the vehicle down on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
What to do when the DPF light is on
The unit is not necessarily what is wrong, and that goes first. A diagnostic goes before the work, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
How the motor is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.
- A long constant run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes normally. Costs nothing, so try that before ringing.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.
The car has been showing you already
The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been growing for weeks:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
- fuel consumption getting worse
- a stop/start that has silently packed in
- the interior reeking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. The light beside them suggests a full filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog round St James
St James is a residential suburb, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to St Barnabas CofE VA Primary School, not on St James Road at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to High Brooms. Soot that should burn away builds up instead.
Save when you have a standing need to get out to the M26, under 15 miles from St James, or over to Brighton and Hove under 50 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
What limp mode comes down to is the car looking after itself. The whole catch is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is limited.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that point, and the filter wants cleaning rather than more driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned in St James
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most drivers do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can wait for a few hours.
A check happens first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are cleared before any of it is touched.
A cleaning solution after that is fed in through the access point on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Where the filter is heavily loaded, expect a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of St James, with you present, or it runs where the car sits and the running data is verified once done.
Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.
The failures a DPF clean cannot answer
A clean fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system failure
- a regeneration that simply never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work starts, not after paying anything.
Two more worth noting. Leaving the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
The figure of DPF cleaning around St James
A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself opens from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it over phone, once the motor and its likely needs are clear. Two things change it: what you run, and where you are — St James itself, out at High Brooms, or farther out within the TN postcode area.
Where the scan says cleaning will not work, you are not billed for a clean. The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
The job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to St James if the light comes back inside that time.
Great and speedy service. DPF now completely clean and running smooth. Liam who did the clean was friendly, and very informative of the process. Would recommend these guys.
Great prompt next day service. Professional and reliable, fixed the issue and gave advice based upon experience of my model. Would recommend.
The service was very prompt, courteous and efficient, and the car is now running better than it has for ages. The engineer, Liam, was professional and very helpful, filling me in on the details of what was done clearly and concisely. I can thoroughly recommend the company.
The vehicles we clean and the area we take in near St James
One call-out service covers private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.
Nearly every week there is usually someone on St James Road, so St James rarely means a detour, and High Brooms, Sandown Park and the places past Southborough follow. Phone anyway from further out through Kent. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are offered hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

What St James drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- If you get it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- Price in St James — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for coming out that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- The car needs a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
- Coming to St James — how soon?
- That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the TN area has open.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it stands. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything a job we do in either direction.
- What if the light returns?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to St James.
