What the motor has been warning you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally build for some time before it arrives:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- you see the revs never reach where they always went
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start quietly packing in
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
None of that is evidence alone. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
