Mobile DPF Cleaning around St Columb Road, Cornwall

With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. Your vehicle isn't taken anywhere and the filter doesn't budge. A fitter comes at your door over in St Columb Road, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and performs a DPF regeneration.

You'll be given a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

The light is showing and the motor is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and what this page deals with.

Your DPF light is on — what next?

Not the filter, automatically. Opening thing to say. That light can come from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with a clean.

The use you get in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.

  • A long steady run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes normally. Costs zero, so attempt that before calling.
  • Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.

What the motor has been warning you

Symptoms have usually been mounting for weeks before the light even shows. Belated news, in other words:

  • less power, especially pulling uphill
  • you see the revs fall short of where they always went
  • the fuel economy is poorer
  • stop/start without a word packing in
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there

That is not evidence alone. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.

Why diesel particulate filters block near St Columb Road

For a DPF, the worst driving is the type you meet around a rural village such as St Columb Road. Nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Indian Queens Primary School, Parka Road barely moving at half past eight, five minutes to The Co-operative Food, the run to the nearest station. Soot that should burn off collects instead.

Geography does not help either. The M5 is over 50 miles from St Columb Road and Truro is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks slip past without the long steady run that might clear the filter on its own.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. With power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs can never run at all. That tells, because triggering one is precisely what a sustained run does.

Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands up to a limit. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the car has slipped into limp mode.

The clogged filter cleaned after a warning light across St Columb Road, Cornwall

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done round St Columb Road

Most people do not see coming this detail: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF yet fixed to the car — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a few hours.

The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and connected components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still in play.

Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of St Columb Road, with you present, or it goes where the motor stands and the running data is verified once done.

A second diagnostic confirms the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.

Where a clean is not the answer

Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • pressure sensors flagging a restriction that is not there
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • AdBlue system faults
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running whatsoever
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before any work gets going, not after paying anything.

Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is replaced — your existing filter is cleaned in place and returned into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

The price for DPF cleaning across St Columb Road

A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice passed on. Treatment itself starts from £299.

No single flat rate would be truthful, so the number is settled over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Where you are tells as much as what you own: St Columb Road itself, Fraddon nearby, or otherwise out within the TR postcode area.

Where the check says treatment will not do it, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was carried out and the advice was passed on.

The clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to St Columb Road if the light returns inside that period.

What we clean, and how far we travel round St Columb Road

Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one mobile service stands, and the filter never leaves it.

Nearly every week there is usually someone on Parka Road, so St Columb Road rarely means a detour, and Fraddon, Killaworgey and the places past Trevarren come with it. Further out across Cornwall is still worth ringing about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

St Columb Road has a population of around 1135 residents, and is located about 223 miles west of London.

Questions St Columb Road drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive shift it?
Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. A long run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes or so to The Co-operative Food and back.
Does the visit run long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
What does it come to in St Columb Road?
Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
Have I got to be around?
No. The motor wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Wanting to be there is welcome: the regeneration then runs out on the road, monitored.
How soon can someone get to St Columb Road?
Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the TR area.
Does the filter come off the car?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is treated in place. Nor does lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
The light reappears — then what?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to St Columb Road.
