Mobile DPF Cleaning across Square and Compass and Pembrokeshire
The car sits in place — on-site DPF cleaning travels to it. A fitter comes at your place over in Square and Compass, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is settled by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is the position this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A check is — a number of faults show up as the same warning.
It counts what you get with the car between now and the visit.
- Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, car driving normally, just one even run, no cost.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- Stop planning long drives and get it seen to if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
What the motor has been warning you
Symptoms have usually been building for a while before the light ever arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- the fuel consumption is worse
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
On its own, none of that is proof. The light with them points at a loaded filter.
The cause diesel particulate filters block near Square and Compass
Being a coastal village, Square and Compass generates just the use a DPF copes with the poorest. The school run to the local primary school, Ael-y-Felin at a crawl at half eight, a few minutes to Bay View Stores, the dash to Fishguard & Goodwick — none of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Soot that should clear collects instead.
The M4 sits under 50 miles from Square and Compass, St Davids under 10 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that clears a DPF. Geography does not help.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer run
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. The entire catch is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. The filter requires cleaning rather than more driving once the motor has dropped into limp mode.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done across Square and Compass
Most people do not see coming this part: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF even now fitted to the car — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never shift are loosened second, by a cleaning fluid fed through the access point on that car, which expands inside the filter. Heavily clogged filters sometimes take a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Square and Compass; if not, statically where the vehicle waits, with the real-time data read once done.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, clearing the warning light and listing anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
Where treatment is not the solution
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a restriction that is not real
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- the AdBlue system failing
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running at all
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
That is what the first check is for. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work begins, not after handing over for it.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
DPF cleaning costs across Square and Compass
Each visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, running the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are clear. The place you are tells as much as what you run: Square and Compass itself, Llanon nearby, or further out in the SA postcode area.
Where the scan says treatment will not work, you are not billed for treatment. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was done and the advice was passed on.
The work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Square and Compass if the light comes back inside that period.
Great service, very quick response. Excellent attention to detail and very clear explanation of the issues affecting my DPF. Highly recommended.
Good Service, Person who repair my car was also nice, My car works fine now. No complaints. Definitely recommend to others.
Excellent service. Were able to come out the same day that I called. Both the person who answered my call and the engineer Dave were friendly and very knowledgeable about dpfs. My van has been running great since.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover round Square and Compass
A single call-out service takes in private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.
Square and Compass is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are out on Ael-y-Felin nearly every week, and the same run covers Llanon, Croes-goch and the places out past Trevine. Phone anyway from farther out around Pembrokeshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are given depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

What Square and Compass drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Quickly enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes to Bay View Stores and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.
- Cost across Square and Compass — what is it?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we price on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- How soon can someone come to Square and Compass?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the SA area.
- Is the filter removed from the motor?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Square and Compass.
