Mobile DPF Cleaner

Speedwell, Bristol: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. Your car will not be taken off and the filter does not leave it. A technician arrives at your door in Speedwell, treats the diesel particulate filter fitted to the vehicle and carries out a DPF regeneration.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the car low on power. That is the position this page is written for.

What to do when the DPF light shows

The unit is not always what is wrong, and that goes first. That light can come from several faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a check and not with treatment.

The driving you get in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.

  • Car yet driving normally on an amber light — attempt a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly shifts the filter without a visit.
  • Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
  • A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop planning long drives and ring.

Signs the motor has been showing you

The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been building for a while:

  • power dropping away, particularly going uphill
  • you notice the revs fall short of where they used to go
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
  • the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

That is not evidence on its own. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.

What chokes diesel particulate filters near Speedwell

Being a residential suburb, Speedwell produces precisely the use a DPF manages the poorest. None of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Chester Park Junior School, The Ruebins barely moving at half eight, ten minutes to Tesco Express, the hop to Stapleton Road. The unburnt soot builds up rather than clearing.

Where you sit does not help either. The M32 is under 3 miles from Speedwell and Bristol is under 5 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that could scour the filter on its own.

Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Power is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can not happen — which is the real problem, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.

The usual advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. The filter needs cleaning rather than more driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.

Cleaning a blocked diesel particulate filter in Speedwell, Bristol

DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Speedwell

Most owners do not anticipate this part: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a while.

First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it taken before any of it is cleaned.

Then the clean. A solution is injected through the entry point on that motor and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.

A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Speedwell if you are there, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the running data checked after.

Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what proves the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still showing.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • a temperature or pressure sensor showing a blockage that is not there
  • EGR valves that stick open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • oil working through the filter from a faulty turbo

That is what the first scan is for. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has left for good.

Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people look up, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth noting.

The price of DPF cleaning across Speedwell

A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. The clean itself opens from £299.

The figure is fixed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. Where you are tells as much as what you run: Speedwell itself, Mayfield Park next door, or otherwise out in the BS postcode area.

You are not charged for cleaning that the check says will not help. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the check and gave you the advice.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Speedwell if the light reappears inside the period.

What we clean, and how far we travel around Speedwell

Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Speedwell is rarely a special trip: our engineers are along The Ruebins nearly every week, and the same run picks up Mayfield Park, Crofts End and the spots out past Burchells Green. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call even from even further out across Bristol.

Things Speedwell drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive sort it?
Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to Tesco Express and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
How long does the visit take?
Allow typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
Price in Speedwell — what is it?
Starting from £299, with a charge for coming out that covers the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
Must I be around in person?
No. The vehicle needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
How soon can someone travel to Speedwell?
You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the BS area.
The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
Not on the call-out service — it is done where it is. We will not lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
And if the light returns?
Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Speedwell.
