Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Southcott, Devon
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A technician comes to your place over in Southcott, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone departs, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the car is low on power — that is how we generally meet people, and precisely what this page deals with.
DPF light on? What to do
The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that goes first. Several faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with treatment.
The motoring you get in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, vehicle yet driving fine — a long steady run can still shift it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you call anything.
- That window has gone once the car has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop arranging long drives and call.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for weeks:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- the fuel economy is down
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
None of that is conclusive by itself. The light alongside them indicates a blocked filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Southcott, and the cause
The day-to-day driving that comes with a coastal area like Southcott is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and gets none: not on the school run to East-the-Water Community Primary School, not on Old Barnstaple Road at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Tesco, and not on the dash to Barnstaple. What should clear remains.
Save when you have a standing need to get out to the M5, under 50 miles from Southcott, or over to Exeter under 50 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a sustained run. Geography is unhelpful.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
What limp mode amounts to is the vehicle protecting itself. The whole difficulty is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter wants a clean rather than road work.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Southcott
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That throws people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a couple of hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That means a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components.
Then the clean. A cleaning fluid is fed in through the access point on that motor and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Southcott; if not, in place where the motor waits, with the real-time data read once done.
Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second scan is what verifies the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still showing.
The faults a DPF clean cannot answer
Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running in the first place
- turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. If it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have handed over for it.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
Figures for DPF cleaning around Southcott
A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. The clean itself starts from £299.
The price is settled over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. Where you are counts as much as what you own: Southcott itself, Orchard Hill close by, or farther out in the EX postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Southcott — the clean includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Great prompt service. Fixed my issue within the hour. Yes expensive at £458 but I was on the road and my van running again. Value for money.
Ashley came out to my address to clean my dpf filter, he was polite and courteous all the time.
Liam came to the House next day, incredibly helpful bloke, talked me through everything and how to stop the DPF blocking up in the future. Well worth the money, saved me loads of problems, highly recommend these guys.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Southcott
A single call-out service spans private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
Engineers are along Old Barnstaple Road week in week out, so Southcott is seldom a detour, and the same run takes in Orchard Hill, Bideford and the spots out past Westleigh. Further out across Devon is nonetheless worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Things Southcott drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you get it in time and the vehicle has not dropped into limp mode. Five minutes to Tesco and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it come to around Southcott?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Is it necessary for me to be there?
- The vehicle wants a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would rather ride along.
- Getting to Southcott — how soon?
- That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the EX area.
- Is the filter removed from the vehicle?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it is. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything something we do either way.
- What if the light comes back?
- An engineer heads back out to Southcott — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
