Southam, Warwickshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a workshop. The engineer pulls up at your door in Southam and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you came with.
Nobody leaves until the number is agreed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the car down on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
First thing: it is not always the DPF. That light can follow a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit begins with a check and not with treatment.
How the vehicle is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.
- A long steady run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes fine. Costs zero, so try that before calling.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
What the car has been warning you
By the time the light arrives, things have usually been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- the fuel consumption is worse
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
What clogs diesel particulate filters round Southam
Being a riverside town, Southam generates precisely the use a DPF copes with worst. A regeneration needs time and heat, and gets none: not on the school run to St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Southam, not on Daventry Street at half past eight, not on ten minutes to Aldi, and not on the dash to Leamington Spa. The soot load banks up rather than burning away.
Where you sit does not help either. The M40 is under 5 miles from Southam and Coventry is under 15 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, weeks go by without the sustained run that could scour the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. The entire difficulty is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter requires cleaning rather than road work.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Southam
The filter does not budge. That is the part most owners do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF still fixed to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a while.
A check goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is started.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own entry point, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. Badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Southam, with you present, or it runs where the car stands and the running data is checked once done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still outstanding written down. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.
Where a clean is not the fix
Treatment cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system failure
- a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have paid, where it turns out to be one of those.
A couple more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is treated in place and put back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning across Southam
Each visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, doing the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the price is fixed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The car shifts it, and so does the address — Southam, Stockton, or anywhere further out in the CV postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not do it, you are not charged for a clean. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so holds.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer comes back out to Southam — the job includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

The vehicles we clean and the area we take in round Southam
The filter is done where it sits on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same trip that keeps engineers on Daventry Street most weeks picks up Southam, Stockton, Ladbroke and the places beyond Deppers Bridge. It is the calendar, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call even from farther out around Warwickshire.

What Southam drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- If you catch it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not five minutes flat to Aldi and back.
- Does the visit last long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly blocked filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
- Across Southam, what does it run to?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- The vehicle needs a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
- How soon can someone travel to Southam?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the CV area has open.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. We will not take filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
- And if the light reappears?
- An engineer comes back out to Southam — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
