South Green, Norfolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a body shop. An engineer comes at your door across South Green, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is agreed on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
If the light is showing and the vehicle is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most people end up here.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the DPF, automatically. First thing to say. A number of faults put the identical light on the very same dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with cleaning.
The motoring you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no outlay.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has shut.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
The car has been telling you already
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- you see the revs never reach where they used to go
- the fuel economy is poorer
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box
None of that is conclusive on its own. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Blocked diesel particulate filters around South Green, and the cause
South Green is a residential suburb, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the worst type for a DPF. A regeneration wants time and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Mattishall Primary School, not on Welborne Road at half eight, not on five minutes to Tesco Extra, and not on the hop to Wymondham. Soot that should burn off banks up instead.
Save when you have a regular need to head out to the M11, under 50 miles from South Green, or out to Norwich under 15 miles away, weeks pass without a sustained stint. Geography is unhelpful.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
What limp mode amounts to is the motor defending itself. A sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it holds right up to a limit. The filter wants a clean rather than road work once the car has gone into limp mode.
The vehicle stays in place for mobile DPF cleaning in South Green
Most people do not see coming this detail: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF yet fitted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a couple of hours.
First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it read before any of it is touched.
Then the treatment. A cleaning solution goes in through the access port on that car and spreads inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes needed on severely blocked filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of South Green, with you present, or it is done where the car stands and the live data is read afterwards.
Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what proves the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
The failures a DPF clean cannot answer
Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- pressure or temperature sensors showing a block that is not there
- an EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running whatsoever
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. When it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have paid anything.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning costs around South Green
The treatment starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.
Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We agree it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are established. What you drive and where you are both change it: South Green itself, out at Welborne Common, or further out across the NR postcode area.
You are not charged for a clean that the scan says will not do it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so applies.
The work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to South Green if the light reappears inside that time.
Igor came out and spotted the issue as soon as he lifted the bonnet, lovely knowledgeable lad. Couldn't fault the company in any way. Booking was efficient, phone call to say when arriving, aftercare brilliant too.
Andras was very helpful after clean discovered pressure sensor was faulty when replaced came back to clear engine management light.
Nic came out and fixed my dpf and emissions light, did a fantastic job my car is now running full speed again after going into limp mode.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round South Green
A single on-site service takes in cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
South Green is rarely a special trip: engineers are along Welborne Road week in week out, and the same run picks up Welborne Common, Mattishall and the spots out past Welborne. Farther out through Norfolk is still worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Things South Green drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Soon enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Five minutes to Tesco Extra and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit run long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which runs on.
- Around South Green, what does it run to?
- A clean opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the figure.
- Have I need to be there?
- No. The vehicle requires a spot to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to come along.
- Getting to South Green — how soon?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the NR area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- Cleaned where it sits, on this service, so no. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do whichever way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to South Green.
