The vehicle has been warning you already
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- dropping away on power, especially uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- fuel economy going worse
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Alone, none of that is proof. The light with them indicates a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Snow Street
Being a rural village, Snow Street throws up precisely the use a DPF copes with the poorest. DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
