Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Snapper, Devon

Cleaning the DPF is done at the car, not at a garage. No garage, no filter going anywhere. An engineer drives out to your place in Snapper, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled on the phone before anyone travels.

The light is already on and the motor is short of power — that is how we normally meet people, and what this page deals with.

Your DPF light is showing — what next?

Not the DPF, automatically. First thing to get straight. A check goes before the cleaning, because that same panel light has plenty of likely faults behind it.

The use you manage in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.

  • Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one constant run, no outlay.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and ring.

Signs the car has been giving you

Last news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for a while before it shows:

  • less power, especially going uphill
  • the revs no longer pull the way they always did
  • economy that is worse than it used to be
  • the stop/start silently packing in
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car

Alone, none of that is evidence. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Snapper, and the why

For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you get around a small village such as Snapper. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and has none: not on the school run to Goodleigh Church of England Primary School, not on Coombe Close at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Tesco, and not on the dash to Barnstaple. Unburnt soot that should burn off banks up instead.

The map does not help either. The M5 is under 50 miles from Snapper and Exeter is under 50 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, weeks slip past without the sustained run that might empty the filter by itself.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working

What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle protecting itself. With power held down and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs will not complete at all. That counts, because setting off one is exactly what a long run does.

The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, up until it is not. The far side of that line — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter wants cleaning.

Where the car stands is where the DPF is done in Snapper

The filter does not come off. That is the detail most owners do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the motor, on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a couple of hours.

Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That requires a check first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts.

A cleaning solution then is fed in through the access port on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely loaded filters.

A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has lifted. Ride along with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Snapper. Leave it and the regeneration goes statically, with real-time data read once it is done.

Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still open written down. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

Cleaning cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a block that is not there
  • an EGR valve held open
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
  • the turbo pushing oil into the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. Turning out to be one of them means hearing it before work starts, not after settling up for it.

Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth noting.

DPF cleaning prices across Snapper

The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that comes with it.

The number is fixed by the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be straight. Two things shift it: what you run, and where you are — Snapper itself, across at Hakeford, or otherwise out in the EX postcode area.

Where the check says cleaning will not work, you are not asked to pay for treatment. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the diagnostic and offered you the advice.

The job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Snapper if the light returns inside that window.

On-site DPF cleaning at a vehicle in Snapper

10/10 experience. I called, got someone out the next day. Nat came and was friendly, efficient and did a great job!

Geoff M.

Andras was excellent. He arrived on schedule, was knowledgeable, professional and courteous and took care of our car. So far the clean seems to have worked and we hope it continues to so we can avoid the hugely expensive DPF replacement.

Rupert C.

Great job from the Kieran did the job really well thank you for the work would use them again when I get the problem thank you Paul.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we take in round Snapper

Whatever it is — estate, panel van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the one mobile service stands, and the filter never departs it.

Engineers are along Coombe Close week in week out, so Snapper is rarely a special trip, and the same run takes in Hakeford, Shirwell Cross and the spots out past Goodleigh. Phone anyway from farther out around Devon. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you get depends on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Things Snapper drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
It might, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not arrived. That means motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a quick trip to Tesco.
The visit takes how long?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely loaded.
How much does it come to across Snapper?
The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both change the price.
Do I have to be there?
The vehicle needs a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would prefer to come along.
Getting to Snapper — how soon?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the EX area.
Will the filter be lifted off?
It is done where it is, on the call-out service. Nor does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light comes back?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Snapper.
