Smokey Row, Buckinghamshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. The fitter turns up at your address across Smokey Row and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you end up with the filter you came with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the figure is agreed on the phone before anyone travels.
Written for the state most drivers are in: the light already on, the car short for power, and the job still to fix.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
Not the DPF, always. Main thing to note. That light can come from plenty of faults, not merely one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with a clean.
It tells what you manage with the motor between now and the appointment.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving normally, just one steady run, no cost.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop booking long drives and book it in.
What the motor has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been going wrong for weeks. It is late news:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- consumption that is worse than before
- quietly, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. The light with them suggests a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Smokey Row
Smokey Row is a residential suburb, and the motoring that goes with one is the worst sort for a DPF. The school run to Great Kimble Church of England School, Kimblewick Road at a halt at half eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the dash to Little Kimble — none of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should clear builds up instead.
Save when you have a regular need to head out to the M40, under 10 miles from Smokey Row, or across to Oxford under 25 miles away, whole weeks go by without a long unbroken run. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds as far as a line. The far side of that point — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter requires treatment.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done across Smokey Row
On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter yet fixed on, which is the bit most owners do not expect.
A diagnostic comes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are freed next, by a cleaning solution put through the access point on that motor, which expands inside the filter. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Smokey Row if you are there, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the live data read after.
A second diagnostic proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
Where treatment is not the fix
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning cures. It will not help:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Which is why the diagnostic comes first. Proving to be one of them means hearing it before any work starts, not after settling up for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Smokey Row
Every visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, taking the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Once we know what you run, and broadly what the filter will need, the number gets settled by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. The car changes it, and so does the location — Smokey Row, Askett, or a spot further out in the HP postcode area.
You are not billed for cleaning that the check says will not do it. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the scan and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to Smokey Row.
Attila the engineer arrived on time and was very polite and knowledgeable. He explained everything very clearly and carried out process with no time wasting.
Zoltan came to our house today to fix our DPF. He arrived promptly, gave us all the information and was absolutely professional and knowledgeable. He was friendly and explained everything he did so we fully understood. He's an asset to your company.
Professional, friendly and fast service. Daz done really good job. My car is now running smoothly and all power back with DPF cleaned and all faults erased. Thank you!
What we clean, and how far we reach round Smokey Row
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
The same run that puts engineers on Kimblewick Road most weeks picks up Smokey Row, Askett, Lower Cadsden and the villages beyond Little Kimble. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call anyway from further out around Buckinghamshire.

Things Smokey Row drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- It can, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not begun. Ten minutes to Tesco and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
- How long does the visit run?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily loaded.
- Price around Smokey Row — what is it?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the number.
- Do I have to be there?
- You need not stand with it — the car just needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then runs out on the road, monitored.
- Can someone travel to Smokey Row soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the schedule. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the HP area has free.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything work we do either way.
- What if the light reappears?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Smokey Row.
