Mobile DPF Cleaner

Smithfield, Derbyshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The motor remains in place — on-site DPF cleaning comes to it. The technician arrives at your door over in Smithfield and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you came with.

Nobody leaves until the number is agreed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

The light is on already and the car is short of power — that is how we normally find people, and what this page is about.

DPF light on? What comes next

Not the DPF, always. Opening thing to say. That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a check and not with treatment.

It tells what you get with the vehicle between now and the visit.

  • Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one constant run, no outlay.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
  • A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop arranging long drives and call.

The car has been warning you already

Late news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for some time before it appears:

  • less power, especially pulling uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they once did
  • the fuel use is poorer
  • the stop/start silently giving up
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

None of that is proof by itself. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.

What blocks diesel particulate filters near Smithfield

For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the sort you meet across a residential suburb such as Smithfield. Look at a typical week: Chapel-en-le-Frith CofE VC Primary School and back, Quentin Road at a standstill before half nine, a short hop to Morrisons, a run to Chapel-En-Le-Frith. None of it there goes on long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should clear stays behind.

Save when you have a regular need to drive out to the M67, under 15 miles from Smithfield, or across to Manchester under 25 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a sustained run. Geography is against you.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode kills it

Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the real catch, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.

The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — more driving will not be enough, and the filter wants treatment.

DPF cleaning at the car round Smithfield

Nothing leaves the car. That surprises people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for two hours or so.

First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected parts — all of it taken before any of it is started.

Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access point, opening out inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Smithfield if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data verified after.

Then a second check, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.

The failures a DPF clean cannot fix

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
  • a failed EGR valve
  • a failure in the AdBlue system
  • glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting in the first place
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

The first scan is there for exactly that. When one of those proves the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has gone for good.

Gutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth knowing.

What DPF cleaning comes to in Smithfield

Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

No flat rate would be honest, so the number is fixed by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. A pair of things move it: what you own, and where you are — Smithfield itself, across at Burrfields, or otherwise out within the SK postcode area.

Treatment that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still applies.

If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer comes back out to Smithfield — the job comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

Melanie B.

The engineer who came (Daz) was very efficient explained the whole process to me. It was clear he had a great deal of experience on dpf problems and their resolutions. Job well done.

I phoned at short notice and they managed to fit me in the same day. The fix has worked a treat.

The vehicles we clean and the area we cover near Smithfield

Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated in place rather than taken anywhere.

The same run that puts engineers on Quentin Road most weeks picks up Smithfield, Burrfields, Blackbrook and the places beyond Chapel-en-le-Frith. Call anyway from even further out through Derbyshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are given depends on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

What Smithfield drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Can I merely take it for a long drive?
It might, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not set in. That means motorway speed for a sustained spell, rather than a quick trip to Morrisons.
How long does the visit last?
It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
Around Smithfield, what does it run to?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
Must I be around in person?
The motor requires a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration turns into a supervised drive.
When can someone travel to Smithfield?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the SK area has available.
The filter — does it come off the motor?
It is treated where it sits, on the mobile service. Nor does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
The light returns — then what?
Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Smithfield.
