Mobile DPF Cleaning across Simpson, Buckinghamshire

With mobile DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. No workshop, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your door across Simpson, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.

You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

If the light is on already and the car is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers end up here.

What to check when the DPF light is on

First thing: it is not always the DPF. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the same panel, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with cleaning.

It tells what you manage with the motor between now and the visit.

  • Amber light, motor yet driving as normal — a long constant run can yet clear it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
  • Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.

The car has been telling you already

Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for weeks before it shows:

  • less power, especially going uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they always did
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • without a word, the stop/start bows out
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle

That is not conclusive on its own. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.

Clogged diesel particulate filters round Simpson, and the reason

For a DPF, the poorest use is the sort you meet in a residential suburb such as Simpson. The school run to Lift Charles Warren, Simpson Road at a crawl at half past eight, five minutes to Hoo Hing, the hop to Fenny Stratford — none of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.

The map does not oblige either. The M1 is under 3 miles from Simpson and Milton Keynes is under 3 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, whole weeks go by without the long steady run that might scour the filter alone.

The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer happen

What limp mode means is the car defending itself. Output is held down, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer complete — which is the entire problem, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.

So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is sound advice, until it stops being. Past that stage — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter wants a clean.

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated across Simpson

The filter does not come off. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That involves a check first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are loosened after that, by a cleaning fluid passed through the access port on that car, which expands inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly blocked filters.

What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Simpson if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the live data verified after.

A second diagnostic proves the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.

The problems a DPF clean cannot answer

One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors showing a restriction that is not there
  • an EGR valve held open
  • a failure in the AdBlue system
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever runs
  • oil working through the filter from a worn turbo

The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. When it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work begins rather than after you have paid a penny.

A couple more worth noting. Leaving the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.

The figure of DPF cleaning across Simpson

A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. Treatment itself begins from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it over phone, once the motor and its expected needs are known. What you run and where you are both change it: Simpson itself, out at Wroughton Park, or farther out within the MK postcode area.

You are not billed for cleaning that the check says will not help. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the check was done and the advice was offered.

The work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Simpson if the light returns inside that time.

The vehicles we clean and the area we take in near Simpson

Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Technicians are along Simpson Road nearly every week, so Simpson is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Wroughton Park, Ashland and the spots out past Bletchley. Farther out around Buckinghamshire is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Questions Simpson drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It needs a steady run at motorway speed, not five minutes or so to Hoo Hing and back.
The visit lasts how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
What does it cost across Simpson?
Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both change the number.
Is it necessary for me to be there?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle only wants somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive instead.
When can someone come to Simpson?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the MK area.
Does the filter leave the car?
It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. Neither getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light reappears?
An engineer heads back out to Simpson — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
