What the motor has been showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for weeks before it shows:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- the revs no longer climb the way they always did
- fuel use that is worse than it was
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.

For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you find in a rural hamlet such as Shwt.
