Shortheath, Surrey: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No garage, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your door over in Shortheath, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
You'll have a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the motor short of power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What next?
Not the unit, automatically. Main thing to get straight. That light can follow plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with treatment.
The driving you manage in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- A long even run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the car goes normally. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before booking.
- Car already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the interior smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Signs the vehicle has been giving you
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been mounting for a while:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
By itself, none of that is evidence. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.
What blocks diesel particulate filters near Shortheath
For a DPF, the worst driving is the kind you get in a village such as Shortheath. The school run to St Peter's CofE Primary School, Little Thurbans Close at a standstill at the morning rush, a few minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to Farnham — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.
Where you sit does not assist either. The M3 is under 10 miles from Shortheath and Winchester is under 25 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that could scour the filter by itself.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds as far as a point. In limp mode you are past that point: treatment is what will help, not more road work.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated across Shortheath
Nothing leaves the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for two hours or so.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That involves a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected components.
A cleaning solution next is injected through the entry point on that car, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Where the filter is badly blocked, allow for a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Come with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of Shortheath. Leave it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with live data read once it is done.
Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both reports are sent over, so the before and after figures are on record.
The failures a DPF clean cannot answer
One thing is what treatment cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, flagging a blockage that is not real
- a jammed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever starts
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are warned before all work starts, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth noting. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
Figures for DPF cleaning across Shortheath
Every visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, running the check and giving the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We agree it by phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are clear. The vehicle moves it, and so does the postcode — Shortheath, Wrecclesham, or somewhere further out in the GU postcode area.
If the check writes treatment out, there is nothing to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so holds.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Shortheath if the light returns inside that period.
Excellent service engineer was so help full and couldn't have done any more than he did id recommend them without any hesitation.
Very nice young gentleman he did a good job and his advise was noted and issues that he picked up will be looked in to in the coming weeks.
Just had James to see to my car, great guy, and really a credit to Dpf Fixers. A go to company. A go to Guy.
What we clean, and how far we reach round Shortheath
A single mobile service spans cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Shortheath is rarely a special trip: engineers are along Little Thurbans Close most weeks, and the same run picks up Wrecclesham, Boundstone and the spots out past Rowledge. It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone anyway from farther out across Surrey.

Questions Shortheath drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- It may, provided you spot it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it cost around Shortheath?
- Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both shift the figure.
- Have I have to be around?
- The vehicle requires a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
- Coming to Shortheath — how soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the GU area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- What if the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Shortheath — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
