Mobile DPF Cleaning around Shelve and Shropshire

Call-out DPF cleaning comes to the car. Your motor will not be taken away and the filter will not budge. An engineer comes at your place across Shelve, clears the diesel particulate filter on the car and performs a DPF regeneration.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is fixed on the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is on already and the motor is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers get to us.

The DPF light is on. What now?

Not the DPF, necessarily. Main thing to note. That light can come from several faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a check and not with a clean.

It counts what you get with the vehicle between now and the visit.

  • Vehicle still driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly sorts the filter without a visit.
  • A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and call.

What the motor has been showing you

By the time the light appears, things have usually been going wrong for weeks. It is last news:

  • falling off on power, particularly uphill
  • revs that will not climb the way they once did
  • the fuel consumption is down
  • without a word, the stop/start gives up
  • diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.

Why diesel particulate filters clog around Shelve

Shelve is a rural hamlet, and the driving that comes with one is the least kind type for a DPF. Think about a typical week: Long Mountain CofE Primary School and home again, Lordstone Lane at a crawl before the hour, a quick trip to Co-op Food, a dash to Church Stretton. None of it there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. Soot that should burn off collects instead.

The M54 sits under 25 miles from Shelve, Wrexham under 50 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that scours a filter. Geography does not assist.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. The entire difficulty is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.

The usual advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that point: a clean is what will work, not more driving.

Where the car stands is where the DPF is done across Shelve

The filter does not budge. That is the bit most owners do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now fixed to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can wait for a while.

The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.

Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are freed next, by a solution put through the access point on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Shelve if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the running data checked afterwards.

A second check verifies the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures on record.

The failures a DPF clean cannot cure

A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not help:

  • pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • the AdBlue system going wrong
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running at all
  • oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo

Which is why the scan happens first. You are told before any work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.

DPF cleaning prices around Shelve

A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it over phone, once the car and its likely needs are established. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Shelve, Black Marsh, or anywhere farther out in the SY postcode area.

If the diagnostic rules cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the diagnostic was run and the advice was given.

The clean carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Shelve if the light reappears inside that time.

DPF cleaning carried out at a vehicle across Shelve

Nic did a great job, car is running as it should again after going into limp mode because of a dirty Dpf. Very polite and professional service.

Peter L.

Diagnosed my engine. Didn't need the clean. Gave me a diagnostic report and did not rip me off. I felt completely satisfied with the information given. Callum was polite, helpful and respectful. Good representative for the company.

Gail C.

Very friendly polite operative who arrived on time messaged me to say he was here. Told me there wasn't a fault with the DPF so there would be no charge gave me a few suggestions on what it might be so will check those out. Thanks Chris.

Christopher F.

Where we travel round Shelve, and what we clean

Whatever it is — estate, light van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the one call-out service applies, and the filter never departs it.

Shelve is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are working Lordstone Lane most weeks, and the same run picks up Black Marsh, Hemford and the villages out past Bentlawnt. Further out around Shropshire is still worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning around Shelve

Is a long drive enough alone?
Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the vehicle has not dropped into limp mode. That calls for motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a short trip to Co-op Food.
How long does the visit take?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely loaded.
What does it run to around Shelve?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
Is it essential for me to be present?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the car just needs somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would rather be there.
Can someone travel to Shelve soon?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the SY area.
Does the filter leave the motor?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We will not take filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
The light reappears — then what?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Shelve.
