Mobile DPF Cleaning in Shelley and Essex
With mobile DPF cleaning, we come to the car. Your car will not be taken anywhere and the filter will not budge. An engineer comes at your place across Shelley, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the car and carries out a DPF regeneration.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is settled over the phone before anyone travels.
The light is showing and the motor is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page covers.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the unit, automatically. Opening thing to note. That light can follow several faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a diagnostic and not with a clean.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, car yet driving as normal — a long even run can yet shift it on its own. Costs zero, and worth a try before you call anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, motoring will not touch it. The window has gone.
- Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the motor has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been deteriorating for some time. It is belated news:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- economy that is worse than before
- stop/start without a word giving up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. Alongside the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Shelley, and the why
Shelley is a village, and the motoring that belongs to one is the least kind sort for a DPF. A regeneration wants time and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to Ongar Primary School, not on Fyfield Road at half eight, not on ten minutes to Sainsbury's, and not on the hop to Ingatestone. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning away.
Unless you have a regular cause to get out to the M11, under 5 miles from Shelley, or across to Chelmsford under 10 miles away, weeks pass without a long steady run. Geography is against you.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can not run — which is the whole catch, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Good advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter wants cleaning rather than road work.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Shelley
Most drivers do not anticipate this part: the filter stays on. The job is done with the DPF still bolted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a while.
A scan comes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is cleaned.
Then the cleaning. A solution is fed in through the access port on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on badly loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Shelley. Leave it and the regeneration runs in place, with running data verified once it is done.
Both read-outs come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what proves the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still showing.
What a DPF clean will not cure
One thing is what a clean fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a restriction that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing whatsoever
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. When one of those is the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has gone already.
Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning runs to in Shelley
The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that comes with it.
Once we are told what you drive, and about what the filter will take, the figure gets settled by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. The car shifts it, and so does the address — Shelley, Greensted, or anywhere further out in the CM postcode area.
Where the check says a clean will not help, you are not charged for cleaning. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
If the light reappears inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Shelley — the clean carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Very nice young gentleman he did a good job and his advise was noted and issues that he picked up will be looked in to in the coming weeks.
Excellent service from Daz Burrows from DPF fixer. Very thorough and care taken to give a full and clear explanation of any problems. Definitely worth the cost for giving me peace of mind.
Excellent service. Problem with DPF resolved. Advised regarding care to avoid issues in the future. Staff member very helpful and knowledgeable. Would certainly recommend this company.
What we clean, and how far we go around Shelley
One on-site service covers cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on Fyfield Road, so Shelley rarely means a journey of its own, and Greensted, Marden Ash and the places past Chipping Ongar are on the way. Even further out through Essex is still worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

Questions Shelley drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Sometimes, if you get it early and the car has not fallen into limp mode. Five minutes to Sainsbury's and back will not be enough; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- How long does the visit take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely loaded filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- How much does it run to around Shelley?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle just needs space to wait for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to be there.
- How soon can someone travel to Shelley?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the CM area.
- The filter — does it come away from the motor?
- Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it stands. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Shelley.
