Shaugh Prior, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The car remains where it is — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. No body shop, no filter leaving. An engineer comes to your place in Shaugh Prior, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is agreed by the phone before anyone sets off.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the motor short of power. That is the position this page is meant for.
What to check when the DPF light shows
First thing: it is not always the DPF. A check comes before any treatment, because that same dash light has several possible faults behind it.
How the vehicle is driven in the meantime counts too.
- A long even run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives as normal. Costs nothing at all, so try that before ringing.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for weeks before it shows:
- power tailing off, especially pulling uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- worse fuel consumption
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
None of that is conclusive on its own. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
The reason diesel particulate filters block around Shaugh Prior
Shaugh Prior is a village, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees none: not on the school run to Shaugh Prior Primary School, not on Brag Lane at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Lidl, and not on the dash to Bere Ferrers. The unburnt soot banks up rather than clearing.
Where you sit does not help either. The M5 is under 50 miles from Shaugh Prior and Plymouth is under 10 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the sustained run that could scour the filter alone.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run
What limp mode comes down to is the car looking after itself. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can not happen — which is the real catch, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
Good advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not. Past that point — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter requires treatment.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Shaugh Prior
Most drivers do not expect this detail: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF even now fixed to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a while.
The ECU is read first, showing soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and connected components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never shift are loosened next, by a cleaning fluid fed through the access point on that car, which opens out inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes required on badly loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Shaugh Prior; if not, in place where the vehicle stands, with the running data checked once done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still open logged. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure, reporting a block that is not real
- EGR valves that hang open
- AdBlue system problems
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing whatsoever
- oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo
The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has gone for good.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning costs across Shaugh Prior
A call-out charge stands whatever follows, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. The clean itself opens from £299.
The figure is fixed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you run and where you are both shift it: Shaugh Prior itself, over at Wotter, or otherwise out across the PL postcode area.
A clean that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Shaugh Prior if the light reappears inside the period.
Really positive experience using DPF Fixer. The technicians attended on time and explained the process well. Leaving me with a vehicle health check, diagnostic report and full details of the job carried out. The car runs much better as a result of the DPF clean. Recommended.
Professional company. Chris explained what he would do, then gave me a detailed printed report afterwards. Communication was good throughout. Very pleased.
I had a DPF related emergency on Wednesday morning, by lunchtime it was sorted. The technician was knowledgeable, professional and personable. The DPF filter was cleaned, faults cleared, and the car drove brilliantly afterwards. Many thanks.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Shaugh Prior
Whatever it is — estate, panel van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same call-out service holds, and the filter never leaves it.
The same trip that puts our engineers on Brag Lane most weeks picks up Shaugh Prior, Wotter, Lovaton and the places beyond Bickleigh. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so further out across Devon is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Things Shaugh Prior drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- If you get it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it takes — not five minutes or so to Lidl and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.
- What does it cost in Shaugh Prior?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting goes by phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be around?
- You need not stand with it — the vehicle just requires space to stand for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
- Can someone come to Shaugh Prior soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the PL area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- Done where it is, on this service, so no. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything a job we do in either direction.
- And if the light reappears?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Shaugh Prior.
