Mobile DPF Cleaner

Second Coast, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The car remains put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. Your motor will not be taken away and the filter will not budge. A fitter turns up at your place in Second Coast, cleans the diesel particulate filter fitted to the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.

You'll know a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the car low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.

DPF light on? What to do

The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults show up as the same light.

Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.

  • A long even run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs nothing, so try that before ringing.
  • A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

What the car has been warning you

Late news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for some time before it arrives:

  • less power, above all pulling uphill
  • revs that will not climb the way they used to
  • worse fuel use
  • a stop/start that has meekly given up
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration

None of that is conclusive alone. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.

Choked diesel particulate filters round Second Coast, and the reason

The motoring that goes with a rural hamlet like Second Coast is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A832 at half eight, not on ten minutes to the local shops, and not on the dash to the nearest station. The unburnt soot banks up rather than clearing.

The map does not assist either. The M90 is over 50 miles from Second Coast and Inverness is over 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, weeks go by without the long unbroken run that might clear the filter by itself.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working

Limp mode is the car protecting itself. A proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration possible.

So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it stops being. The filter wants a clean rather than road work once the car has dropped into limp mode.

DPF cleaning at the car round Second Coast

Nothing leaves the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can sit for two hours or so.

A check happens first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before anything is cleaned.

A solution then is fed in through the access point on that motor, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Badly blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.

What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Second Coast, with you along, or it is done where the motor waits and the live data is verified once done.

Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still showing.

The faults a DPF clean cannot fix

One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting at all
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

The first check is there for precisely that. If it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have settled up for it.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

Figures for DPF cleaning around Second Coast

The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.

The number is fixed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you own: Second Coast itself, Sand close by, or further out across the IV postcode area.

Treatment that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What even so stands is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the scan was done and the advice was passed on.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to Second Coast.

Where we get to round Second Coast, and what we clean

The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

Week in week out there is usually someone on A832, so Second Coast hardly ever means a detour, and Sand, Inchina and the spots past Laide come with it. Ring anyway from further out around Highland. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are given depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Second Coast itself

Second Coast is a small hamlet situated on the coast of Highland, Scotland, with a low elevation of 59 metres. Second Coast lies near other rural communities such as First Coast, Sand, and Laide, and is approximately 53 miles from the city of Inverness. Second Coast has a sparse population of around 68 residents, who mostly live in detached houses.

Things Second Coast drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?
It might, provided you spot it early and limp mode has not begun. It wants a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes to the local shops and back.
The visit runs how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
Cost across Second Coast — what is it?
Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both change the figure.
Have I need to be around?
Space for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Come along if you prefer, and the regeneration turns into a watched drive.
Getting to Second Coast — how soon?
You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the IV area.
Is the filter lifted off the motor?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
What if the light reappears?
An engineer travels back out to Second Coast — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
