Mobile DPF Cleaning across Sea and Somerset
Sorting the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a workshop. No body shop, no filter coming off. A fitter comes to your address in Sea, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll know a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
The light is showing and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually meet people, and roughly what this page covers.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
First thing: it is not always the DPF. That light can arise from several faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then counts.
- Motor still driving as normal on an amber light — have a go at a long constant run first. It costs zero and regularly clears the filter without a visit.
- That window has closed once the motor has fallen into limp mode. Driving will not help now.
- Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
The motor has been warning you already
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:
- climbing uphill, the power tails off
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
Alone, none of that is conclusive. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Sea
Being a rural hamlet, Sea throws up exactly the driving a DPF copes with worst. The school run to Herne View Church of England Primary, Watery Lane at a standstill at half eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the run to Crewkerne — not one bit of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should burn off stays put.
Geography does not oblige either. The M5 is under 10 miles from Sea and Wells is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the sustained run that would empty the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
What limp mode means is the car protecting itself. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power limited, revs pinned, no regeneration possible.
The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is good, up until it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: treatment is what will do it, not more driving.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done in Sea
Most drivers do not expect this part: the filter stays on. The job takes place with the DPF even now bolted to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a while.
The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by percent and by mass, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are lifted next, by a cleaning solution fed through the access port on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Sea, with you there, or it runs where the motor stands and the live data is verified once done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light put out, anything still open logged. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure, showing a block that is not real
- an EGR valve held open
- AdBlue system failures
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing in the first place
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are told before any work gets going, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is cleared in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Sea
The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.
Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are known. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you drive: Sea itself, Donyatt next door, or farther out within the TA postcode area.
If the diagnostic rules treatment out, there is no charge to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, did the check and passed on you the advice.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Sea if the light reappears inside the window.
Had a gentlemen called Attila came to my address n done a full dpf clean n reset very friendly and professional i would definitely recommend 5 star thank you.
Daz was awesome, so knowledgeable and friendly, knew just where the problem was and how to sort it. Cannot recommend enough.
The engineer Andrea's was very efficient. Nothing was a problem. I don't think my van has driven so well since I have had it. Very pleased. Thank you.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Sea
Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same mobile service stands, and the filter never quits it.
Most weeks there is by then someone on Watery Lane, so Sea seldom means a journey of its own, and Donyatt, Knowle St Giles and the spots past Dowlish Ford follow. Call anyway from further out across Somerset. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you get comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Sea is part of the wider rural landscape of the South West region, with the nearest major city being Wells. Sea has a population of around 288 residents.
Questions Sea drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes or so to Tesco and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can take cleaning twice, which runs on.
- How much does it run to across Sea?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we quote on the phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The car needs somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then runs out on the move, monitored.
- Can someone come to Sea soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the calendar. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the TA area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Done where it stands, on this service, so no. Neither taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- An engineer travels back out to Sea — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
