Mobile DPF Cleaning in Scrafield and Lincolnshire
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the car. An engineer comes at your door in Scrafield, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is settled on the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is already on and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most people end up here.
What to try when the DPF light comes on
Not the unit, automatically. Main thing to get straight. That light can follow a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with a clean.
How the motor is driven in the meantime matters too.
- Vehicle still driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs nothing and regularly sorts the filter without help.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already gone.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the interior smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
Signs the motor has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been deteriorating for weeks. It is late news:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
The cause diesel particulate filters clog near Scrafield
The driving that comes with an area like Scrafield is the worst sort for a DPF. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and sees none: not on the school run to Horncastle Primary School, not on Slash Lane at half eight, not on ten minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op, and not on the hop to Thorpe Culvert. Unburnt soot that should burn away collects instead.
Geography does not help either. The M180 is under 50 miles from Scrafield and Lincoln is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that would scour the filter by itself.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the car defending itself. The real catch is that a sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.
So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that line: treatment is what will work, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the car round Scrafield
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a while: the job is done with the filter even now fixed on, which is the bit most people do not see coming.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution goes in through the access port on that car and opens out inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Heavily loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Come with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Scrafield. Park it and the regeneration is done in place, with running data checked once it is done.
A second diagnostic verifies the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both reports are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
Where a clean is not the answer
A clean cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, flagging a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that simply never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter
Which is why the scan happens first. Proving to be one of them means learning it before work starts, not after settling up for it.
Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
The price of DPF cleaning in Scrafield
A call-out charge applies whatever the outcome, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. Treatment itself begins from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it on the phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. What you own and where you are both shift it: Scrafield itself, out at Hameringham, or farther out within the LN postcode area.
If the check writes cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Scrafield.
Was cleared and red engine light gone in literally just over 30 mins! So relieved to be able to drive my car again safely.
Dave arrived on time very professional and fixed the problem so back on road and gave me advice to keep it clean. Many thanks. Jonathan.
Andras was excellent. He arrived on schedule, was knowledgeable, professional and courteous and took care of our car. So far the clean seems to have worked and we hope it continues to so we can avoid the hugely expensive DPF replacement.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around Scrafield
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along Slash Lane week in week out, so Scrafield is rarely a special trip, and the same run takes in Hameringham, Mareham on the Hill and the places out past Hagworthingham. Call anyway from even further out through Lincolnshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you get comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Questions Scrafield drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op and back.
- Does the visit last long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is heavily blocked.
- What does it cost in Scrafield?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why settling it goes by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- The motor requires a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.
- How soon can someone come to Scrafield?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is available across the LN area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- It is done where it is, on the on-site service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Scrafield.
