What the motor has been telling you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been growing for weeks:
- climbing uphill, the power falls off
- you notice the revs stop short of where they always went
- economy that is worse than it used to be
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
Alone, none of that is conclusive. The light beside them points at a blocked filter.
