Rock, Somerset: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. The engineer turns up at your address across Rock and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, settled by the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is showing and the vehicle is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners arrive here.
DPF light on? What happens next
Not the DPF, automatically. Main thing to get straight. That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with cleaning.
It counts what you do with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- A long steady run may even now manage it, provided the light is amber and the car runs normally. Costs nothing at all, so try that before booking.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Signs the car has been sending you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been building for weeks:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- the fuel economy is poorer
- stop/start quietly giving up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
None of that is conclusive on its own. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
The cause diesel particulate filters choke near Rock
Being a rural hamlet, Rock generates just the motoring a DPF manages least well. The school run to Curry Mallet Church of England Primary School, Rock Hill at a standstill at half eight, ten minutes to Sainsbury's, the dash to Taunton — none of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning away.
Except when you have a regular need to head out to the M5, under 5 miles from Rock, or over to Wells under 25 miles away, whole weeks go by without a sustained drive. Geography is unhelpful.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
What limp mode means is the car protecting itself. The whole difficulty is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands right up to a point. The far side of that stage — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter needs a clean.
The vehicle stays put for call-out DPF cleaning round Rock
Nothing is taken from the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for two hours or so.
First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it logged before a thing is touched.
After that comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the car's own entry point, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely loaded filters.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Rock, with you present, or it goes where the vehicle sits and the running data is checked afterwards.
A second check confirms the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
Where a clean is not the answer
A clean fixes one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting whatsoever
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
That is what the first check is for. If one of those turns out to be the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has gone already.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning runs to around Rock
A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. The clean itself opens from £299.
The price is settled over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. The place you are tells as much as what you drive: Rock itself, Curry Mallet nearby, or further out within the TA postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not help, you are not asked to pay for treatment. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, did the scan and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Rock.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Rock
Whatever it is — private car, van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the one mobile service stands, and the filter never leaves it.
Our engineers are along Rock Hill nearly every week, so Rock is hardly ever a detour, and the same run picks up Curry Mallet, Newport and the spots out past Beercrocombe. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call anyway from even further out around Somerset.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Rock
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. Five minutes to Sainsbury's and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- Roughly how long does it run?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly clogged.
- What does it come to across Rock?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you are both shift the figure.
- Have I have to be present?
- Somewhere for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
- When can someone get to Rock?
- That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the TA area.
- Does the filter come off the motor?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. We will not lift filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Rock.
