Red Row, Northumberland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. Your vehicle is not taken off and the filter will not come off. An engineer turns up at your door over in Red Row, treats the diesel particulate filter fitted to the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the motor short of power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What next?
The filter is not always what is to blame, and that leads. That light can arise from several faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with a clean.
The driving you get in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving fine, just one constant run, no charge.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has shut.
- Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the interior smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you
Symptoms have normally been growing for weeks before the light even arrives. Late news, in other words:
- power falling off, above all climbing uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- fuel use going worse
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is proof on its own. The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round Red Row
Red Row is a coastal village, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Red Row Primary School, Swarland Terrace at a crawl at the morning rush, ten minutes to Morrisons, the dash to Acklington — not one bit of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot collects.
Neither is far from Red Row: under 25 miles to the A167(M), under 25 miles to Newcastle upon Tyne. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never gets made.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
What limp mode amounts to is the vehicle protecting itself. The whole catch is that a long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until it stops being. Past that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter requires cleaning.
The motor stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning in Red Row
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can wait for a while: the job takes place with the filter still bolted on, which is the bit most drivers do not anticipate.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is fed in through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on heavily clogged filters.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. Come with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Red Row. Park it and the regeneration is done in place, with real-time data read once it is done.
Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a jammed EGR valve
- AdBlue system failures
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever runs
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
Finding that out is the first check's whole job. If it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have handed over anything.
Two things more worth noting. Having the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Red Row
A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. Cleaning itself opens from £299.
No flat rate would be honest, so the number is settled by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Where you are counts as much as what you run: Red Row itself, Hadston next door, or farther out across the NE postcode area.
If the scan rules cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone came out, ran the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Red Row.
Booked just randomly offline but have to say they are very good and professional all from the call to Tom who did my car very knowledgeable and friendly guy full of advice and friendly and got my car to perfect condition. Much appreciated.
Liam was courteous, efficient and quickly sorted the blockage for us in the DPF. Very happy with the service provided. Would recommend.
From my desperate phonecall to Zolton showing up was about 1 hour!! The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Zolton clearly has a passion for cars which shone through. He was a really nice guy and explained each step well. The result is a success.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we take in near Red Row
The one call-out service takes in cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along Swarland Terrace nearly every week, so Red Row is seldom a detour, and the same run takes in Hadston, South Broomhill and the spots out past Broomhill. Coverage is UK-wide, so farther out around Northumberland is still worth a ring, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Questions Red Row drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — badly clogged filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
- How much does it cost around Red Row?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both shift the number.
- Is it needed for me to be present?
- You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle only needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
- When can someone come to Red Row?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the NE area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it sits. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- An engineer heads back out to Red Row — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
