Ratsloe, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a body shop. Your car isn't taken off and the filter will not leave it. An engineer turns up at your place in Ratsloe, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed by the phone before anyone travels.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the motor low on power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
The DPF light is on. What now?
It may not be the unit at all. That is the opening thing. A clean is not where a visit starts. A scan is — plenty of faults register as the same warning.
The use you get in the meantime counts. That is the next thing.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving normally — a long constant run can still clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not shift it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
The motor has been telling you already
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been deteriorating for a while. It is belated news:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they used to go
- fuel economy getting worse
- stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is conclusive on its own. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
Choked diesel particulate filters round Ratsloe, and the reason
The day-to-day driving that belongs to a small village like Ratsloe is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Stoke Canon Church of England Primary School and Pre-School, Moor Lane at a standstill at half past eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the run to Pinhoe — none of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. What should burn away stays put.
Save when you have a routine need to head out to the M5, under 3 miles from Ratsloe, or across to Exeter under 5 miles away, whole weeks go by without a long unbroken stint. Geography is no help.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run
What limp mode means is the car defending itself. The entire catch is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is capped.
Good advice, that motorway run — until the point it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than road work once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Ratsloe
On your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can sit for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter still fixed on, which is the part most drivers do not anticipate.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are loosened after that, by a solution passed through the access port on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is severely blocked, plan on a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Ratsloe; if not, statically where the motor waits, with the running data verified once done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still open noted. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.
The failures a DPF clean cannot fix
One thing is what a clean fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve held open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever completes
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
The first check is there for exactly that. You are told before any work starts, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning prices across Ratsloe
Each visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the scan and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
No single flat rate would be honest, so the figure is agreed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The car moves it, and so does the address — Ratsloe, Brookleigh, or a spot further out in the EX postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Ratsloe.
Had been quoted £2000 to replace DPF by my garage. DPF came home and fixed it for £400 or so, car runs perfectly now. Great service, highly recommend.
Keiran was friendly and professional, he fixed the problem and offered advice on how to avoid the issue in the future. We were very pleased with the work.
Lad who came out to me at home was friendly talked me through everything did a diagnostics test and advised on a new sensor for dpf everything at the minute seems fine and van drives so much better without any faults.
What we clean, and how far we go round Ratsloe
Whatever it is — private car, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same on-site service stands, and the filter never leaves it.
Most weeks there is by then someone on Moor Lane, so Ratsloe rarely means a special trip, and Brookleigh, Poltimore and the villages past Stoke Canon are on the way. Phone anyway from further out around Devon. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the day you are offered hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

What Ratsloe drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
- How long does the visit run?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is severely clogged.
- How much does it cost across Ratsloe?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Have I need to be present?
- The vehicle needs a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would prefer to come along.
- Travelling to Ratsloe — how soon?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the EX area.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it sits. Neither lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Ratsloe.
