Mobile DPF Cleaning across Radyr and Cardiff
With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. A fitter arrives at your address over in Radyr, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody leaves until the price is settled on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is on already and the car is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page is about.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
Not the DPF, always. Opening thing to say. A scan comes before any work, because that same dash light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then counts.
- Car yet driving fine on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs nothing and regularly clears the filter without help.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the stage to stop booking long drives and book it in.
The car has been telling you already
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for some time before it arrives:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. The light alongside them suggests a loaded filter.
What blocks diesel particulate filters around Radyr
Being a residential suburb, Radyr throws up just the use a DPF handles worst. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Heol Isaf crawling at the morning rush, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to the nearest station. What should burn away remains.
Save when you have a routine need to get out to the M4, under a mile from Radyr, or over to Cardiff under 5 miles away, weeks go by without a sustained stint. Geography is unhelpful.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
What limp mode comes down to is the motor looking after itself. Output is capped, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer happen — which is the entire catch, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.
So the usual advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are past that point: treatment is what will do it, not more miles.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Radyr
Nothing comes off the car. That throws people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for two hours or so.
A check goes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts, so other faults are eliminated before any of it is started.
Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid is injected through the entry point on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Badly blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Radyr, with you there, or it goes where the car stands and the live data is read afterwards.
Then a second scan, proving the change, clearing the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
Where a clean is not the answer
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not reach:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing at all
- turbo problems, with oil getting into the filter
That is what the first scan is for. Proving to be one of them means finding out it before the work begins, not after handing over a penny.
Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people look up, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.
The price of DPF cleaning around Radyr
A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice offered. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we have what you drive, and about what the filter will need, the price gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be straight. Where you are tells as much as what you run: Radyr itself, Coryton nearby, or further out in the CF postcode area.
Treatment that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still holds.
The work comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Radyr if the light returns inside that time.

Where we get to near Radyr, and what we clean
A single on-site service takes in private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.
Radyr is rarely a special trip: technicians are out on Heol Isaf most weeks, and the same run picks up Coryton, Rhydlafr and the spots out past Tongwynlais. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so phone anyway from even further out across Cardiff.

What Radyr drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- It may, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not set in. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Co-op Food and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily loaded.
- Cost across Radyr — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Do I have to be present?
- You need not stand with it — the motor just needs somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- How soon can someone travel to Radyr?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the CF area.
- The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it stands. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Radyr.
