Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Prospect, Cumbria
With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. The engineer arrives at your door in Prospect and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled on the phone before anyone leaves.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the vehicle down on power. That is the position this page is written for.
DPF light on? What to do
Not the filter, automatically. First thing to note. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the identical panel, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.
How the vehicle is run in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, car even now driving normally — a long steady run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Last news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for a while before it appears:
- power tailing off, above all pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
- the fuel economy is down
- the stop/start silently packing in
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
That is not proof on its own. The light with them indicates a blocked filter.
The explanation diesel particulate filters choke near Prospect
Prospect is a coastal village, and the motoring that comes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. The school run to Oughterside Primary School, Osborne Place at a halt at half eight, a few minutes to Twentymans, the dash to Aspatria — none of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.
Neither is far from Prospect: under 25 miles to the M6, under 25 miles to Carlisle. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter never comes.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the car defending itself. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. Past that point — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter requires cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Prospect
On your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a few hours: the job is done with the filter still bolted on, which is the bit most drivers do not see coming.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That means a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated parts.
A cleaning solution then goes in through the access port on that motor, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly clogged filters.
A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Prospect; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the running data checked once done.
Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still open.
Where a clean is not the solution
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not help:
- pressure or temperature sensors showing a block that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
The first scan is there for precisely that. If it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up for it.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
Figures for DPF cleaning in Prospect
A call-out charge applies whatever the outcome, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice offered. The clean itself begins from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are established. Two things change it: what you drive, and where you are — Prospect itself, over at Hayton, or further out across the CA postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says a clean will not help, you are not asked to pay for treatment. You still pay that charge: someone came out, did the check and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Prospect.
Great prompt service. Fixed my issue within the hour. Yes expensive at £458 but I was on the road and my van running again. Value for money.
Really impressed with this! Very easy to arrange, really helpful chap called Andras who carried out the clean and diagnostics, and much much cheaper than replacing the filter so saved me a lot of money. Highly recommended.
Very pleased came out within hours of booking dpf clean engineer quickly sorted van back on site that evening all done in a day got a print out of all vehicle readings.
Where we travel round Prospect, and what we clean
Cars and estates, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Technicians are along Osborne Place most weeks, so Prospect is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Hayton, Westmoor End and the places out past Oughterside. Phone anyway from further out around Cumbria. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are given comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning around Prospect
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Soon enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Five minutes to Twentymans and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Cost across Prospect — what is it?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it goes by phone.
- Have I got to be around?
- The vehicle wants a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- Getting to Prospect — how soon?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the CA area has free.
- Does the filter come off the vehicle?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. Nor does lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Prospect.
