Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Preston, Wiltshire
With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. A fitter turns up at your address in Preston, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is settled over the phone before anyone sets off.
Most owners find us with the light on already, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
DPF light on? What to do
It may not be the filter at all. That is the opening thing. A check happens before all cleaning, because that same dash light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
It counts what you manage with the car between now and the appointment.
- Vehicle still driving normally on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently shifts the filter without help.
- Car already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- Stop booking long drives and get it looked at if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Signs the vehicle has been giving you
Symptoms have usually been growing for a while before the light ever shows. Belated news, in other words:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they always did
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Alone, none of that is evidence. The light with them points at a blocked filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters block round Preston
Preston is a rural hamlet, and the driving that belongs to one is the worst sort for a DPF. The school run to St Michael's CofE Aided Primary, Marriage Hill at a crawl at half past eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the run to Hungerford — nothing of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot collects.
Neither is a long way from Preston: under 3 miles to the M4, under 25 miles to Oxford. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter hardly ever happens.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle defending itself. The real difficulty is that a long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is limited.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than more driving once the car has dropped into limp mode.
On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands in Preston
Nothing is taken from the motor. That catches out people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never budge are lifted after that, by a cleaning fluid passed through the access port on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is severely clogged, allow for a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Ride along with the car and it is done as a monitored drive out of Preston. Drop it and the regeneration is done in place, with running data verified once it is done.
A second check proves the change, resets the warning light and lists anything still open. Both read-outs are sent over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
One thing is what treatment cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system failing
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter
The first scan is there for just that. Where it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have settled up a penny.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
Figures for DPF cleaning around Preston
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. Treatment itself starts from £299.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it on the phone, once the car and its expected needs are established. What you own and where you are both shift it: Preston itself, over at Marridge Hill, or otherwise out within the SN postcode area.
Treatment that will not work is not cleaning you pay for, and the scan is what says so. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.
The job comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Preston if the light comes back inside that period.
Rang them and they came out the same day, done a deep clean on the dpf, so will have to see if it has worked.
Excellent service. Engineer on site as promised. Very helpful and friendly. I am happy to recommend this company to anyone.
Arrived as promised the next day. Very good explanation of the process. Went ahead with the clean and the car is now very responsive and quick with no warning lights. Thank you Ashley.
The vehicles we clean and the area we cover round Preston
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Technicians are along Marriage Hill most weeks, so Preston is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Marridge Hill, Aldbourne and the spots out past Ramsbury. Even further out across Wiltshire is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

Questions Preston drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
- How much does it come to across Preston?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you are both change the figure.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- A spot for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- When can someone come to Preston?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the SN area has available.
- The filter — does it come away from the car?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Preston.
