Preshome, Moray: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a workshop. The fitter turns up at your address over in Preshome and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you came with.

The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the DPF, necessarily. Opening thing to note. That light can follow several faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with cleaning.
It matters what you get with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- Vehicle yet driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long constant run first. It costs zero and often shifts the filter without assistance.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has closed.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been sending you
Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light even arrives. Late news, in other words:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- consumption that is worse than it was
- stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.
Choked diesel particulate filters round Preshome, and the cause
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the type you get around a coastal area such as Preshome. The school run to the local primary school, A98 at a standstill at the morning rush, five minutes to Tesco, the run to Keith — none of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Soot that should burn off collects instead.
The M90 sits over 50 miles from Preshome, Aberdeen under 50 miles off, and unless something carries you out that way regularly, full weeks slip past without the long steady run that scours a filter. Geography does not oblige.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle defending itself. With output held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter requires will not happen at all. That tells, because starting one is just what a sustained run does.
Good advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — driving will not manage it, and the filter needs a clean.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is treated round Preshome
Nothing leaves the motor. That surprises people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can sit for two hours or so.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.
What the clean has lifted is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Preshome if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car stands, with the live data verified afterwards.
Then a second scan, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
What a DPF clean will not cure
A clean cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- an AdBlue system failure
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have paid for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into use.
