Mobile DPF Cleaning in Portrack, Durham
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. A technician comes at your place over in Portrack, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is settled by the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is showing and the motor is short of power — that is how we normally meet people, and what this page is about.
Your DPF light is on — what now?
First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a check and not with cleaning.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.
- Worth a try before you call anything: amber light, car driving fine, just one steady run, no outlay.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop booking long drives and book it in.
Signs the motor has been giving you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been deteriorating for a while. It is late news:
- climbing uphill, the power tails off
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- fuel use that is worse than before
- stop/start without a word giving up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
The reason diesel particulate filters block near Portrack
Being a residential suburb, Portrack throws up just the driving a DPF copes with the poorest. Look at a normal week: Tilery Primary School and home again, Blue House Point Road at a halt before half nine, a quick trip to Asda, a dash to Thornaby. Not much there runs long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning off.
Neither is a long way from Portrack: under 15 miles to the A1(M), under 25 miles to Durham. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter never comes.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
What limp mode amounts to is the car protecting itself. A sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power capped, revs pinned, no regeneration available.
So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, up until it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than road work once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Portrack
Most people do not expect this detail: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF yet bolted to the car — on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a few hours.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it read before any of it is cleaned.
Then the clean. A cleaning solution goes in through the entry point on that motor and spreads inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. A second pass is sometimes required on severely clogged filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Portrack if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the live data read once done.
Both read-outs come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still open.
Where cleaning is not the answer
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor reporting a block that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting in the first place
- turbo problems, with oil getting into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. Transpiring to be one of them means finding out it before the work gets going, not after paying a penny.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
What DPF cleaning costs around Portrack
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.
Naming a flat rate would not be honest. We agree it over phone, once the motor and its expected needs are clear. The motor moves it, and so does the address — Portrack, Stockton-on-Tees, or anywhere further out in the TS postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for a clean that the check says will not do it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so holds.
The job includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Portrack if the light returns inside that window.
Id recommend DPF Fixer when your dpf needs cleaning. Daniel who attended to my car was friendly, knowledgeable, explaining what the problem was and how he fixed it. I also needed a replacement sensor which Daniel sorted. A very good service. Thank you.
Excellent professional and very useful SCOTTISH bloke Nat was full of knowledge great to deal with and on time superb would recommend to any other garage or customer thanks.
Really helpful on the phone call, didn't have to wait long for an appointment with the engineer, then engineer was great.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we take in round Portrack
A single call-out service covers cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than taken anywhere.
Nearly every week there is usually someone on Blue House Point Road, so Portrack rarely means a detour, and Stockton-on-Tees, Queens Park and the villages past Middlesbrough follow. Coverage runs UK-wide, so even further out around Durham is even so worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

What Portrack drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to Asda and back.
- Broadly how long does it take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- What does it come to around Portrack?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Do I have to be present?
- The vehicle requires a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
- Can someone travel to Portrack soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the TS area has free.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it is. Nor does getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Portrack.
